Still with the writing woes. Upload booze. I've got a better handle on my protag (he's very cute, in his "Joss Whedon Is My Master Now" t-shirt), but what he's going to do about the situation he's in is still being...problematic. Gah.

I also come bearing a fic rec: "Puppy Dog Eyes" by [livejournal.com profile] unsettledfic. Shameless fluff, in which Sherlock Holmes bonds with Gladstone the bullpup. I died of cute.

And a video from JustSomeRandomGuy: "I'm Twilight, and I'm True Blood."

If you are an Iron Man fan, and you have seen IM2, then you need to go read this, right now:

What Happened to the Burd?

Seriously, go. I'll wait.

Back? Who loves you, baby? I do. Which is why I rec you awesome things.

I finally got the chance to sit down and read Almost No One Makes It Out by [livejournal.com profile] atrata yesterday, and it blew me away. Iron Man, what-if scenario based on "What if Tony Stark wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth and had to join the Army?" and it's amazing. 28,000 words and well worth your time. I devoured it in one sitting and may just read it again.

OMG, y'all, FIC REC.

Anyone who's seen "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" (the movie with RDJ, Val Kilmer, and Michelle Monaghan, not the Torchwood ep) needs to go read this, right now.

And if you haven't seen KKBB, then you need to go get the DVD, watch it, and then read this.

Or you can read this, get intrigued by the narrator, and then get KKBB. Either way.

The lovely and effulgent [livejournal.com profile] amonitrate has written an Iron Man/Dollhouse crossover that you must GO READ RIGHT NOW.

Boy, howdy, I missed the Every Shade of Wrong this fandom brings to the table sometimes. HOLY SHIT. And I say that with the greatest admiration.

In other news, my time in the Word War Room was productive today and I managed to bang out about 1200 words, so, yay. Not finished the scene yet, but very close. I do suck so very much at the Comfort part of Hurt/Comfort.

Darling du jour:

"But this isn't about me and my latest non compos mentis episode."

Oh, Ben.

It's bad. I plugged it into this one, and it saw the drive all right, but asked me if I wanted to format it. I do not have the tech-fu to be able to bypass this, nor do I have a program that will do it for me. It looks like I'm going to take a financial hit on this no matter what. And I need my data; I got another rejection today, and the last version I have of my spreadsheet doesn't even have that market listed as something I was going to send that story to. I can rebuild that, because I save all those emails out of some perverse masochism, but... yeah.

Also, not having the actual ending of the novelthing in front of me is driving me batty. I'm managing to scribble a scene in OpenOffice for another middle part (oh, the angst, poor Ben, he's going to kill me in my sleep), but I want the whole thing. Fortunately, if the end is lost, I gave a printout of it to my Writing Buddy before he left for the wilds of California for a library conference and then World Fantasy, so as long as he hangs on to that, I'm okay, I can retype it, but gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

However, there's good with the bad. I do have this computer (although typing on it is making me nuts), so I can talk to you all. And I can read new fic, and participate in discussions about The Mentalist.

And I can rec fic as well. If you are any kind of Iron Man fan at all, you need to go read "Parthian Shot," right now, by the lovely and effulgent [livejournal.com profile] vr_trakowski. It's possible I've recced her before, because she's brilliant. But this one is especially special. And diabolical.

The lovely and effulgent [livejournal.com profile] vr_trakowski has written an Iron Man/Wall-E mashup, and you need to go read it right now.

In other news, I've figured out a couple of things about my stowaway. Life is about to get interesting for my romantically-involved characters...

What is it with me writing triangles these days? I AM NOT A ROMANCE WRITER, DAMMIT.

Also, I have a headache. And thus I'm grumpy. But at least there's NASCAR tonight. And thus I get to make Wif Burritos. OMNOMNOM.

And that's really all I'm going to say about this date. Other people out there are expressing my own thoughts better than I could do (I'm an emotionally stunted fiction writer, remember), and the world doesn't need me saying "I hope we kill every last one of the bastards responsible so dead that no one will ever find all their parts. And everyone who cheered them on too."

Which, I guess I just did. Take that as you will. I realize that makes me sound like I'm still angry and bitter about it, and, hey, guess what, I am. And I don't plan on getting over that anytime soon. My husband is an airline pilot, you bet your ass this is personal for me.

Anyway. *cough* That's more than I meant to say. Running off at the keyboard...

Actually, what I meant to say was, you need to go read this, right now. It has nothing at all to do with the above rant. There are zombies. Be sure there's nothing in your mouth, because I don't need any of you choking and dying, or alternatively, spraying your computer screen and blaming me. Go on, shoo, read it. You'll thank me.

And then go out and buy Larry's book. Because it's freakin' awesome.

In celebration of my last post, wherein you all were a bunch of Filthy Enablers, I bring you a Buffy/True Blood/Twilight crossover. Buffy, Sookie, and Bella go on a talk show and discuss their various boyfriends. And then, in the followup, we get Spike, Bill, and Edward.

Also, if that release party is Friday night, I might be able to go. I'm not sure if it's the Walmart or the Borders that's going to have cake, but...cake!

Speaking of vampires and other creatures of the night, the latest editing pass continues apace. Have I mentioned lately how much I love not!Harry? Because I do.

Far be it from him to make someone relive a personal trauma.

Oh, god.

I had a thought nibbling at me the other day. As *cough* unstable as not!Harry is, I'm not sure that him running around armed would be tolerated, legality-wise, in the State of California--which State is pretty intolerant of guns in general and people who are arguably crazy carrying them in particular. I wonder who I'd even call to find out, and what the permit process is like there, if he's working for a private detective agency.

Of course, he might carry illegally. I wonder if his boss would get in trouble if he got caught doing that.

ETA: Huh. This is interesting. The operative term here is, I believe, "adjudicated," which means that someone's gone to actual court and proven that the person is a danger to himself or others. Not!Harry has (clearly) had a diagnosis of PTSD, but no one's taken him to court over it. Although, as events prove out, he is a danger to himself if he doesn't think he has anything left to live for--and believes (whether legitimately or not) that he was responsible in part for the death of someone he loved.

You know, I haven't posted a snippet in awhile...

Friday night at midnight, apparently.

Is it bad that I want to go to the release party at either Walmart or Borders, wearing my Puppet!Angel t-shirt, strictly so I can point and laugh?
