I got my Serenity ornament today, and it is very shiny and made of awesome. It would be even cooler if I had the Mal and Jayne action figures to go with it, but I don't. Woe. Perhaps I shall finally buy them on eBay. Along with Spike's and Angel's cars. After all, I have Starsky's car--along with a Pacer, a Pinto, and a Gremlin, and a '59 DeSoto Fireflite that isn't Spike's.

My Farscape S2 DVDs shipped today. Which is good, because we've only got six eps left to watch in S1. My Angel scriptbooks are nowhere to be seen, and I'm really hoping that they didn't come while we were in Dallas and get stolen off my porch, because that would suck. I'll give them another week before I start getting worried.

I have two and a half pages of ScruffDogFic. Where this is going, I have no idea, and I'm seriously debating having her die on the operating table. The Hubby says I can't do that, because the Antichrist can't die, per se, but he is a silly person.

I got my assignment for [livejournal.com profile] friend_fic today. Now I have a month to pick two characters of the opposite sex and write friendship fic inspired by "nothing whatsoever." Hee! Ideas are percolating. I've wanted to write Jayne and Inara for a fair bit. This may be my opportunity, although [livejournal.com profile] inlovewithnight has written the perfect one of those.

The airplane should be ready any time. The radio that was off getting fixed is done getting fixed and should be shipped back to the FBO soon. Hubby's got eight days off for his transition from August to September, so if it's ready then, that would be perfect.

I did 26.6 miles and burned 1250 calories on the recumbent stationary bike yesterday. Today, I'm doing a little weightlifting. That being said, I do not recommend dropping three pounds in one day to anyone. 'Tis draining. But at least I'm back to where I was before we went to Texas. Of course, that was before we found the dark chocolate M&Ms at WalMart, which we've been waiting to come out FOREVER. And they are just as delicious as you'd think they'd be. Dammit.

Got tagged by [livejournal.com profile] fiction_theory for the book meme:

1. One book that changed your life?
The Bible.

2. One book you have read more than once?
The Paradise War, by Stephen Lawhead. I love the whole world he's created in this series and the Celtic culture that forms it.

3. One book you would want on a desert island?
My Bible.

4. One book that made you laugh?
The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents, by Terry Pratchett

5. One book that made you cry?
Gray Dawn, by Albert Payson Terhune. Dude, dog books. And APT gets me every time, no matter how many times I re-read them.

6. One book you wish had been written?
Something by Tom Clancy detailing the Presidential campaign of Jack Ryan.

7. One book you wish had never been written?
The Coming of the King, by Nicolai Tolstoy, which has to be the most boring, turgid, horrid Merlin story I've ever had the displeasure of throwing across the room. I rarely don't finish a book, but, dude, this one defeated me.

8. One book you are currently reading?
The Amateur Inn, by Albert Payson Terhune. Because, doggie!

9. One book you have been meaning to read?
Anasazi Anansi Boys, by Neil Gaiman. *eyes stacks of books* It may be awhile before I get to it. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] honorh for the title correction. Because I don't pay attention.

10. Now tag five people.
Heh. No. Anyone who wants to? Consider yourself tagged.

In other news, the lovely and effulgent [livejournal.com profile] bigsciencybrain alerted me to the fact that DeepDiscountDVD is having a Buy-One-Get-One promotion on selected box sets. And "The Commish" (both seasons) is on the list. And I'm poor. *sobs* I might be able to finagle a payday between now and Sept 5th. If not, then the "Bill Me Later" option is very attractive...or should I say "seductive."

*headdesks* I am So. Bad. with money. Argh.

Let me preface this by saying, I don't wear much jewelry. I used to match earrings up with a pin and whatever animal I was wearing on a t-shirt that day, awhile ago. Nowadays, I don't generally bother.

That being said.

[livejournal.com profile] writercon is fast approaching. I bought a dress and a sash today for the cocktail party. I have earrings. The dress is a purple batik sort of thing with a tiger on the bottom of it, made in Thailand, and the sash is a wide crocheted thing in gold, silver, and white. I have a pewter tiger pin that I can wear if I wish, although the earrings are gold-tone and don't match it at all.

I still have no shoes, other than the bloody uncomfortable ones I really don't want to wear.

Then there's this thing. Which would go beautifully with the dress in a goldtone with the iridescent purple beads. But again. I don't wear jewelry much, and have no idea where else I would wear such an outlandish object. Firefly meetups? Eh, maybe, although I generally wear my various Serenity t-shirts to those. My brother's wedding is coming up in a couple of months...

So, the question becomes: Does the slave bracelet count as "swag"? Or should I just swallow hard and use other money for it? Or is it a silly thing to buy altogether?

I guess I'm going to the [livejournal.com profile] writercon cocktail party. Seeing as I just blew fifteen bucks on a dress at the swap meet for just that purpose. Now I need a sash and shoes. *eyes hair, which I have no idea what to do with* At least I have jewelry that'll go with the dress...

Of course, the reason we went to the swap meet in the first place was so I could get a new, less cavernous, fanny pack than the one I'm packing around now. And naturally, no one had any of those. *mumbles*

That being said, I scored a Dale Jarrett windshield sunscreen for the Purple Cruiserberry, a book by Greg Bear, a couple of 3-D dino puzzles for Da Boy, and some cheap choklit for the Muse. Plus the aforementioned dress. And it got me outside, in the sun, away from the puter for a few hours. So it wasn't a total loss.

Oh my biggest freaking heck.

MUST. HAVE.

For those shy about clicking links and who haven't seen the [livejournal.com profile] whedonesque feed, that's the new Serenity t-shirt from Hot Topic. Featuring Jayne with his big-ass gun saying "Let's be bad guys." And if you order before Monday, you get a 20% discount.

Also, I won the book on eBay last night that completes my Albert Payson Terhune collection, and I got it for a silly price. The cheapest copy on ABE is $75. My price? $31. *dances* And a one-second snipe, BABY. *buffs nails*

Am I breaking into my [livejournal.com profile] writercon fund to pay for these things? Yes, yes, I am. Do I feel guilty about it? Mildly. However, I've got $60 coming to me from the sale of a camera that will make up for it. So, I'm good, I think.

DUDE. I never in a million years thought I'd get this widget at that price. It was a limited edition that they retired in 1996, and it usually goes for nearly twice as much. I've been after this piece ever since I started collecting anteaters, aardvarks, pangolins, and echidnas.

And a one-second snipe? Still got it, BABY!

So, yes, I've been shopping like a madwoman online since the Hubby won that race and my laptop got paid off. One neat thing I got was a laptop fan that hopefully will stop my poor computer from overheating and dying at critical moments. I've been using it today, and the puter is VERY noticably cooler, so that was apparently under$20 well-spent.

I also got the Terhune book I mentioned a few posts back, and it's lovely, and "The Art of Discworld," which is gorgeous. Holy cow. My precccciiiiioooosssssss....

A couple of sellers on eBay have the Harmony Kingdom "Group Therapy" figurine up for sale right now; one ends tomorrow, and the other ends a couple of days after that. I'll probably be outbid before I start, but my sniping muscles are primed and ready.
