Let me count the ways that"Lost" is luscious...

Michael and Hurley laughing at Sawyer trying to pick the lock on the suitcase. Especially Hurley. I wubs him.

Jack threatening to withhold Sawyer's antibiotics. Man, that's just cold.

Now Sun knows there's something up with Kate.

Kate the Bank Robber. My, she's a good actress. Wonder if she was telling the truth about killing the man she loved, and if that's really his little DC-3...and why she'd want it if she killed him. I mean, ew.

Rose praying for Charlie. *sniffle* That was really nice. I like her. Be interesting to see if The Island gives her Hubby back to her.

Kate and Sawyer swimming in the Lagoon of Dead Bodies. Again, I say, ew. If that were me, I'd have gotten out and NOT gone back in. Unless I *really* needed a toy airplane...

Anyone else think that The Island wants them off the beach, and that's why the tide's coming in?

"Beyond the Sea," for the youngsters on my flist, did not originate with "Finding Nemo." Bobby Darin recorded it in 1960. Therefore, it's probably an old standard that Danielle would know.

Kate/Sawyer snark. That was fun. Her head-butting him? Even funner. "What, you smell blood on the wind?" Bwah!

Sayid and Shannon. Aw. She seemed really hurt that Boone, God's Friggin' Gift to Humanity, called her "useless." I immediately thought of her when Sayid said that the notations on the map were in French.

Yay! We got to see Vincent again! And he's clumsy! *pets him*

Sawyer tossing the suitcase around like the gorilla in the Samsonite commercial all those years ago. That was just funny. Wonder if JJ remembers those too...

Wow. They crammed a lot into this episode.

I *adored* Rose's praying for Charlie. The poor fellow needed it so badly. I wonder if he ever really lost his faith, or if he just misplaced it?

And yeah, I'm thinking the Island is moving them. It seems to have its own purposes, and part of that appears to be bringing everyone to their personal crisis. Testing their mettle, so to speak.

I think Kate actually did tell the truth to Jack about the man she loved and killed--but the whole truth is going to be way more complicated.

I think we may see Charlie come back to his faith before this is all over. It was quite refreshing to see religion treated with a modicum of respect for once. *resists urge to go off on a rant about Hollyweird's treatment of religion, specifically any kind of Christianity*

On the TWoP boards, there is a certain split; those people who are bugged because it was the black woman turned out to be a "Jesus freak" (their words, not mine) and those who think it perfectly acceptable. I think Hollywood treads a fine line with religion and Lost is good at not crossing it - they didn't make Rose into a "magical black person," but I think they are sort of setting her up to be Locke's counterpart.

*snorts* There are people who would be offended that there are any Jesus freaks on the show...especially if they were portrayed as basically normal people whose faith just plays a little bigger part of their outlook on life than other people. Some of us really don't foam at the mouth...

Actually, Rousseau's writing wasn't the Bobby Darin version of Beyond the Sea, but actually an older version called La Mer. It went like this:

La mer
Qu'on voit danser le long des golfes clairs
A des reflets d'argent
La mer
Des reflets changeants
Sous la pluie

La mer
Au ciel d'été confond
Ses blancs moutons
Avec les anges si purs
La mer bergère d'azur
Infinie

Voyez
Près des étangs
Ces grands roseaux mouillés
Voyez
Ces oiseaux blancs
Et ces maisons rouillées

La mer
Les a bercés
Le long des golfes clairs
Et d'une chanson d'amour
La mer
A bercé mon coeur pour la vie

Someone in the TWoP forums posted it and the English translation. I think that's pretty cool - and Maggie Grace is a really good singer.

All in all, I thought it was a good episode, even if Kate's backstory is friggin' hard to understand. She orchestrates a bank robbery to get inside a safety deposit box that contains a toy airplace that belonged to the man she loved/killed. Why she would want the plane or why the plane was in the safety deposit box are never explained.

Also never explained: why Sawyer didn't take off his damn jeans when going swimming!

LOL I think Sawyer probably "goes commando"...and Kate seemed underwhelmed last time she saw him naked.

Oh, that's neat about the song. I haven't read the TwoP board yet. Must go do that.

I think there's way more to Kate's backstory than we're getting at this point. But I'd also like to see other backstories. *chanting* Hurley! Hurley! Hurley!

Yes, must see Hurley's backstory. I'm thinking they find a mysterious suitcase and it belongs to Hurley and at the end it's revealed inside is... D&D figurines.

"I'm considered something of a warrior myself." Yeah, he's probably a 15th Level Paladin. He's an interesting guy; from what I'm hearing, we're not going to get his backstory until near the end of the season...and even Jorge doesn't know what it is.

I think the next backstory is Boone's and Shannon's. Which is cool, cause I like them.

"Michael and Hurley laughing at Sawyer trying to pick the lock on the suitcase. Especially Hurley. I wubs him."
Agreed. I cracked up when I saw Hurley crack up. How the heck does he know what that kind of lock is, anyway? Is it common knowledge to all that that sort of lock is unpickable, and I'm just grossly misinformed, or does Hurley have some kind of profession having to do with locks?

I cried at that Rose/Charlie scene. Was so sweet. I like Rose. She was cool, telling him that he was being rude. I laughed.

I had a sneaking suspicion that it was "Finding Nemo" that Shannon was talking about, but I didn't know. Thank you for clarifying. (I thought of Shannon when Sayid mentioned the French, too. I thought she agree to translate just so she could rub her usefullness in Boone, GFGtH's face.)

I guess that kind of suitcase is well-known for being impregnable. But Hurley knows all kinds of esoteric things.

Maybe he's CIA...

*imagines Hurley in suit and sunglasses, remniscent of Men in Black*

Oh, God. That would be too excellent. Hee...
