This will be better, I think.
While attempting to figure out how this "solution" is not a deus ex machina for Ben, I've decided that it's just not going to go "as planned," and the relief he gets isn't going to be as great as I was going to give him at first. As my handsome and talented Writing Buddy points out, Ben is allowed to get help from outside sources, as long as it doesn't solve all his problems.
But, at the same time, I don't want my readers to think this is a cheat. So, it's a fine line I walk.
And I need to figure out how I'm going to describe how this shadow-cord is knotted around him. Because if I say "shibari," like, three people on the planet will understand it.
In other news, the Steelers apparently managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, losing in the last 34 seconds of the game. *shakes head*

Life is magical and full of joy.
Oct. 25th, 2009 03:48 pmAt least on the football front. The Steelers won today after their defense scored two touchdowns. AND I got to watch them do it. Woot!
And, in spite of my computer woes, I have managed to hit my weekly writing goal. And I wrote a scene in which Ben gets to be awesome. People should stop underestimating him just because he's not very big and is prone to panic attacks. It always always always bites them on the ass.
I know what snippet I'm posting tomorrow. *evil laughter*

Between the insects working together to steal a bottle of Coke at a picnic to the tune of "Peter and the Wolf" and using a rhinoceros beetle as a can opener, and the "Mean Troy" ad, I think Coke is winning the Ad Wars tonight.
( YouTube vid under the cut... )
The Budweiser Clydesdales are pretty awesome too, although they haven't made me cry this year.

*bounces* GO STEELERS!!!!
Five hours until it starts. GYAH, how will I contain myself until then?
...
...
I know, I'll torture my characters some more. Especially since the Hubby (that TRAITOR!) is rooting for the Cardinals. Hmph.
ETA: *reminds self to breathe* Dude. I'm surprised people let me near small animals and children. Just sayin'.
Yeah, I just added something to the opening scene that makes the little snippet I posted yesterday make actual sense.
Yay?

Life, as
grrm would say (if he was a Steelers fan) is magical and full of joy. The Steelers won today, in spite of the fact that me wearing my Steelers shirt on game day is usually a jinx. I am made ridiculously happy over this.
On the other hand, RDJ didn't get the Golden Globe for best actor for his role in Tropic Thunder, losing to Heath Ledger, which, I suppose, was a given, considering the circumstances. Alas. Personally (and this isn't my bias talking, really), I think Robert was robbed. Heath was great in his role as the Joker, but, you know, psychopaths are a dime a dozen and I'm not sure that it was really a "nuanced" role. Robert, on the other hand...
Well. Show me another white American actor who could have pulled off playing an Aussie actor playing an African American who then disguises himself as a Vietnamese farmer. Convincingly, and without being offensive. Even though it was a comedy, I think it was a more complex role. YMMV, of course.
In other news, I'm about 2/3 of the way through another readthrough of the not!kkbb/im thing. Gawd, I love these characters. Oh, not!Harry. I just need to figure out where I can stick all the corporate bullshit so it makes sense within the narrative so my ending is tighter and not!Tony has more to lose than he did in the first draft.
