So, I've found myself wondering what new thing Jim Butcher's going to be working on now that Alera is done.

Wonder no more:

I made a noise only dogs could hear when he said "steampunk."

OMG, y'all.

We went ahead and voted yesterday. I'm sure it will come to no surprise to anyone who's been paying attention that I voted for Mitt Romney, Mia Love, and Orrin Hatch. I'll be glued to the TV Tuesday night.

And I will be very very very glad when it's over.

Also, I will be QUITE PUT OUT if "Last Man Standing" completely turns me off tonight. It is dangerous for a sitcom to address politics. As long as they're fair to both sides, I'll be all right with it, but this is network TV, so, you know, I have no confidence that they actually will--even though this particular show has been remarkably even-handed about things. There was a bit where he was cleaning a Revolutionary War long gun and his wife was all "What if the baby gets ahold of it" and he went into this long spiel about all the steps it would take for the baby to actually fire it. She said "Well, at least put the safety on," and he retorted "The whole thing is a safety!" and it was hilarious. I just looked for it on Youtube, but ABC has privated it, dammit, BUT: here it is.

In other news, the Cirque du Soleil is in town this weekend with their show "Quidam," and we went to see them. It was awesome, amazing, and beautiful. Now I want to drag the Hubby and the Boy to Vegas so they can see "Mystere." And I may even have the Hubby talked into it. The Boy was hesitant at first, not thrilled that Mom was dragging him to see this thing where he didn't know what to expect, but he was completely captivated by it and is totally on board with seeing another. MWAHAHA. My evil plot to expose him to culture without him knowing it continues apace.

Writing? What is this "writing" of which you speak?

OH HAI.

Firefox has a new thing. Or maybe it's an old thing that I've just now discovered.

Personas. You can now have Robert gracing your browser. They also have Sherlock Holmes and Iron Man. Or any other thing you want, really. They have Buffy too. Pick a fandom, any fandom. This one's for you, [livejournal.com profile] pensive1.

Shiniest. Thing. EVER. The more I use Firefox, the more Win it is made of.

So, I'm still running through my flist (I'm at skip=280, and that's just journals, not comms or feeds. This puts me at Tuesday). I'm done. Skip=340.

Visit with the HubbyMom was nice, although rather stressful. The reason we're home today and not yesterday is because she had to put her beloved German Shepherd to sleep yesterday for a plethora of reasons that just happened to come to a head that day, and so we decided to stay the extra day and (attempt) to help her through it. These things are never, ever easy, and you're continually second-guessing yourself. Been there, done that, cried the tears. *sigh*

In a complete turnaround of what usually happens on these trips, I actually got some writing done.

Specifically, I got seven thousand words of writing done.

Yup. I doubled my weekly goal. And the week's not done yet. o.O Dude.

Whilst landing in Pueblo, we noticed a B-17 Bomber on the tarmac. "Whoa, cool," sez we. Turns out that it's the Aluminum Overcast, and it's touring a bit, so if anyone's in Arizona next month, go check it out. Seriously, that's a piece of living history you don't get to see very often.

Or ride in.

Oh yes. Didn't I mention? They were selling tickets to go for a ride in it. The Hubby and I got there early that day, dinked around town afterwards for awhile, and then let Fate decide if we would get to go up in it or not. We got back to the airport, and they had two seats left. "Sign us up," sez we.

Yeah, okay, this generation? WE DON'T KNOW ANYTHING. SERIOUSLY. These guys, eighteen, nineteen, twenty-year-old kids, riding in this incredibly noisy tin can for four hours to a war zone, dropping bombs, getting shot at for an hour, and then four hours back--if they made it back. Firing guns that were state-of-the-art at the time but OMG SO PRIMITIVE. And they JUST DID IT. OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

Scuse my capslock, but, DUDE. Yeah, that was an experience I wouldn't trade for anything. Totally worth the (not inconsiderable) money.

Yeah, wow. Just...wow.

In other news, the shoes came and they fit. Yay!

In other other news, the Hubby bought me a new computer. And it's teeny and light and I love it to pieces, although it's going to take a bit to get it the way I want it. And isn't it funny that if it hadn't had XP on it, I would so not have been interested at all. Right now I'm still working off the old computer, but I'll be making the changeover pretty soon. Erm. Wish me luck.

Is this thing on?

I realized this morning that I have several new friends *waves at them* who weren't around when I posted this snippet. Which I have now edited (not at that link, alas, since I can't edit comments) into something even more horrifying, because Antubis is being recalcitrant and I have no idea how to make a CAT scan anything but boring boring boring. Le sigh.

Anyway. That snippet gives the one I posted last night some actual context. Janni telling Ben "try not to die" is just that much more blackly funny when you realize that, you know, he already did.

Why, yes, I've been accused of having an odd sense of humor. Why do you ask?

Man...is it tomorrow yet in the story? Is it time for me to smack him over the head again?

Also, this right here? COOLEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN. Steampunk Victorian all-in-one computer. Seriously.

I just discovered this...thing with Robert Downey, Jr., in it. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] quicksilvermad, who pointed me in its direction.

Apparently it's a twelve-minute promotional thingy that Volvo did about four years ago, and it's surreal and kind of brilliant. Also, Robert encounters himself multiple times, and multiple RDJs is win. *eyes not!KKBB/IM story* Um. Yes.

It's on YouTube in two parts, and I embed it behind the cut for your viewing pleasure:

Three Roberts for the price of one! )

In other news, I'm still trying to figure out what to do with not!Harmony. Hell, I don't even know what the poor woman does for a living or why she was at the same fundraiser not!Tony was. *headdesks*

And I need to give her some issues other than the "needing to be a caretaker" one she obviously already has.

DUDES.

This is a piece of performance art I can get behind:

Completely safe for work. Which, this being me, you should know already. But seriously, y'all, Robert Downey, Jr., is a beautiful, beautiful man. Holy cow.

Sam Taylor-Wood (the woman in the video) is a brilliant photographer. In fact it's her photo I used in this icon:
and I decided to look at more of her work based on it.

In other news, I lost two-tenths of a pound yesterday, putting me under 126 for the first time in...well, a really long time. Yay!

And I realized this morning that, with not!Pepper wolfing out, I lost one of my favorite lines in the original, and I'm not sure I can get it back. To wit:

She had his head on her lap and was playing with his hair, wondering if he was going to die in her arms--which would be a very not!Tony thing to do, all things considered; he loved dramatic gestures--when the machine guns started going off and screams reverberated through the compound.

In the new (final!) version, she's wondering if she's going to have to bite him to save him, and how mad he'd be if she did. Which is, well, funny, I guess, in a completely black-humor sort of way. But damn if I don't wish I had a way of keeping the "dying in her arms because he loved dramatic gestures" line.

I know there's gotta be people on my flist who are fans of Mythbusters. I don't have cable, however. So, although I love the show and watch it whenever I can, I hardly ever get to.

But the Hubby often has overnights where he gets to watch cable TV, and he told me about this episode, wherein the myth is "a malfunctioning hot water heater will go up through your roof like a rocket." Google is my friend, and the first link was a winner.

Go, watch this. I promise you, it's worth 17 minutes of your life. And then go check your water heater. Because, DAMN.

My shows are back! And I have new stuff to watch! I'm sold on "Chuck" (but, you know, Adam Baldwin. You knew I would be), and "Journeyman" looks like it might be interesting. "Heroes" had a fabulous start to the beginning of the season. Cut for spoilers... )

For some reason, Bones confused the hell out of me tonight. Not the personal relationships, those were fine, but the case. This may be a function of the fact that I kept getting interrupted at the beginning of the show. Fortunately, I taped it for the Hubby and can watch it again.

I love Dr. House. And that's all I'm going to say about that.

And for something completely different, which has nothing to do with fannish pursuits whatsoever, go here: Guide Horsies for the Blind. No, it's not a joke. I found it via Cute Overload.

Yeah, yeah, I know. I should be writing...

OMG, I want this. Since they didn't put the graphic novels on the Heroes DVD set, this thing is shiny.

And the writers on my flist will get a kick out of this, which I found via Writer Beware:

Because, seriously, we can all either imagine a conversation like this...or we've actually had one.

Apologies for that emo-tastic last post. I have tackled one of the major jobs I need to get taken care of before the Hubby gets home tomorrow afternoon, and it's still slightly overwhelming, but I'm firmly telling myself that it's OKAY to throw away a PalmIII that doesn't work, for Heaven's sake. They're on what incarnation now? The thing wasn't even color, and ran on AAA batteries! Yay for getting it either free or at a major discount because I worked for the silly company, but jeepers. I haven't used it in forever. And I can toss a bunch of other crap that's been sitting in this TV table for years. I don't need it! AUGH.

*visits Palm website* o.O Oh, wow. They got shiny, y'all...
