Nothing like being nearly 4200 words into a story before it starts clamoring at you that it wants to be in first person. It's the best thing ever.

I guess the question is, should I just write the damn thing in first person going forward and then fix the first 4000 words in edits, or should I continue in limited third and try to force it into a shape it doesn't want to be in.

Actually, I know the answer to that, and the answer is "Don't argue with the Muse because the Muse is frequently correct."

Especially since I just wrote the next sentence in first person anyway.

The muse is a wicked bitch.

She's currently keeping me from working on my latest art doll project, 'cause she's just not feeling it. Come on woman, WORK WITH ME HERE!

I've learned that I just have to power through "not feeling it." Write or Die is the tool I use for that.

I don't know what you'd do for dolls, though.

When things are good, I work like crazy all through the night, and in morning I'll look at what I've done and go "Wow, I did that?" When I try to just push through, I ruin everything I touch. I've learned from experience that I have to respect the muse, and do things at her own pace.

I'm currently working on a bisque doll that is over 100 years old, and I can't afford to screw it up. She's going to have to sit on the back burner until I get the flash of inspiration I need to start up again.

When I get "stuck", I do things like photograph my old inventory for catalog, list stuff on Ebay or Etsy, and clean up the kitchen - all the things I never do while I'm creating! Gotta find the balance, you know?

Ah, yah, it's a different creative process that you can't fix in edits. Right now I'm just doing word vomit. I like what I have so far, and the words are actually coming, so that's a plus, anyway.

But the fact that I'm 5500 words into this thing and haven't hit the first pinch point yet bodes ill for it not being an unwieldy bastard.

Welp. I'll just have to see what happens. This is definitely an adventure...
