Outline #5 is in the can. The final piece dropped into place last night right after I crawled into bed and turned off the light. Fortunately, the Hubby is tolerant of the Writer Foible of having a Eureka! moment and needing to turn on the light to write it down. Because if you don't write it down, it never happened.

So now I need to figure out my 6th story for this Massive Project of Doom.

In other news, I heard back from the place where I sent Sold Soul--they're holding it for further consideration. So I had good news in my inbox. Also the Zombie story should be in print soon.

In other other news, I once did a fanvid of KKBB using Daniel Powter's "Bad Day." Youtube took it down for a copyright violation (I would argue that it's a transformative work, but, whatever). I really wish I knew how to embed it somewhere and have it play when someone clicked a link to it, but my web-fu is not that strong, alas. All this is backstory to say that the Boy knew of the video, but didn't know I'd made it. And now he thinks I'm kind of brilliant. Hee.

Also, well-known author Brad Thor retweeted a couple of articles I sent him, thus widening the audience for them.

You are an inspiration to me. You really are. Lately I have - well, I don't like to say, “given up,” but, I mean, I don't even write ABOUT writing any more. I've slid very far back down the slope indeed, to where practicing the craft of writing is not fun any more. If I did it more, I'd regain the skill to make practicing fun again, but nowadays, it's just maddeningly difficult and I have other priorities.

You show me that it's still a Doable Thing - that winners never quit. Thank you.

Aw, Gordon, you're welcome. I listened to Writing Excuses last night, and they pointed out that Jay Lake, who is now published everywhere and has a few awards under his belt, wrote for twenty years before he was ever published. So, I guess I'm ahead of the game?

But, you know what? It is hard, discouraging work. This business will crush your soul if you let it. My magnum opus, the best and hardest thing I ever wrote, has garnered nothing but rejections. And all I can do is submit it elsewhere and cross my fingers that the right editor will see it on the right day and love it as much as I do and then throw money at my head.

In the meantime, I just have to write more and hope that the next thing I send out will be The One. And part of this NaNo project is me getting serious about that and deciding just how bad I want this.
