He'd lost so much over the past seven years. Jesse, his best bud. No chance to say goodbye, only time to kill the thing his friend had become.

Cordelia. His first real girlfriend. Lost through betrayal. She'd left town...and now she was in a coma. No chance to say goodbye to her, either.

He'd just started patching things up with Anya. And she had been killed. No goodbye, take three.

And so he'd lost his mind. Catatonic, in the back of the bus, he wandered among the corridors of his soul with his fallen comrades. It was better there.

I know, I'm a big meanie. But the poor guy has lost a heck of a lot over the years. I think he's earned a little time inside his own head.

I'll have to keep reminding myself that I'm at WriterCon to learn stuff. Fun, yes...but working fun.

I particularly like the mention of Jesse. The show glossed over that loss, but it HAD to mean a lot to Xander.

Well, it was why he hated vampires so very much, and he never did really get past that in his relations with Angel and Spike.

Poor Xander has lost a lot during the course of this show.

sadly enough, I find this an oddly happy Xander-fic.

it's not so much about who and what Xander lost, but more about how and when he lost it, and Joss had written him pretty much into the corner of luckyless hopeless failure at the end of the series.
So the though of him going crazy and spending the rest of his life having fun with his (dead) friends in his own mind without pain? An unexpected happy ending for Xander.
