sadly enough, I find this an oddly happy Xander-fic.
it's not so much about who and what Xander lost, but more about how and when he lost it, and Joss had written him pretty much into the corner of luckyless hopeless failure at the end of the series. So the though of him going crazy and spending the rest of his life having fun with his (dead) friends in his own mind without pain? An unexpected happy ending for Xander.
