Behold my mad laptop-cooler-repairing skilz, y'all. The power source for the thing was loose and finally caused it to die completely, so I opened it up (which was an adventure in and of itself...WHY does it need eight screws to hold it together, all of which are hidden under little rubber things or the big label?), readjusted the pluggy thing, and screwed it back together. And now it's running like a champ.

So there's fifteen bucks I don't have to spend on a new one. Considering the fact that my poor little laptop dies at the hint of overheating, an external cooler is a must for it.

In other news, my Steelers lost today. *cries* Not only that, but the NASCAR race got rained out and they swapped over to ESPN for it, because of network constraints. Boooo.

However, during the NASCAR race, we got to see some ads for a new show called "Pushing Daisies," which looks...funny and weird just my cup of tea. Will have to check it out. I'm still a little up in the air about "Moonlight," mainly because Jason Dohring's character is made of win. If it wasn't for him, I probably wouldn't watch it again. The opening sequence all by itself fails on many levels, and the fact that Nick's injecting blood (EWW. No needles, kthx?) raised my WTF-o-meter nearly off the charts. They might have thought "Hey, this is different," but different does not always = better, guys. Especially when you're ripping off every other vampire private eye out there. We're not going to forgive you for all that if you have one thing that's a little "edgy."

And I just missed out on an eBay auction because they thought I wasn't signed in. CRAP. Oh well. There will be another.

I've been looking fwd to "Pushing Daisies" for many reasons. It looks like a good premise and has cool special effects, etc. AND it has Anna Friel whom I love.

I watched the replay of "Chuck" yesterday (and made H watch it with me) and we both just LOVED it! That's definitely one I'm going to keep watching. ;)

As for "Moonlight," that intro was CRAP! I was telling H about it and played it for her to see what I was talking about. I have no idea why they did that whole interview thing like that because it was cheesy and it was also out of character. The main guy was SO not that person. I understand that they wanted to convey the rules of this verse, but LAME! So yeah, not sure what to think of it yet.

I watched Moonlight again last night because I taped it for the Hubby. Bad writing, bad acting. The intro was a classic case of "telling" rather than "showing." I'll give it two more chances to find its feet, because at least Jason Dohring's character (whose name escapes me...Josef?) is somewhat interesting, but they'd better start ramping it up soon. And giving him more screentime. Because the idea of a 400-year-old vampire finding another way to "suck people dry" is amusing all by itself.

In fact, if they kill Nick (Mick? See? I can't even be arsed to remember their names.) off and make it all about Josef, it would be a better show.

LOL! Yeah, I can't remember their names either. It's got some interesting elements to it, but I'm not sure after that "season preview" they had at the end that it's going to survive. I'll give it another chance, but ... we'll see what happens.

Yep. I'll give a new show three or four episodes to find its feet, but now that there's lots of actual good stuff on, the winnowing process is brutal. I'm not even sure that 24 is going to survive this go-round, from the rumbles I've heard about what they're thinking doing with it.

This may be one of those shows we look at and say "Hey, some network thought this thing was worth keeping around. We can write better than this!"

Kind of like "Close to Home." *barf* Or "The Ghost Whisperer." *double barf*

LOL! I hear ya. I gave a couple of new ones a try and I'm already cutting them loose because I just don't care about them. "Dirty Sexy Money" where we see the problems of an uber rich family. Gosh must be rough. NOT! SO don't care about that show, even with the whole "who really killed my father" angle for the main character.

Same reaction to "Big Shots" where ABC was obviously trying to plug a male version of "Desperate Housewives" or some such soap opera thing. Let's see, you've got one guy who is cheating on his wife and his mistress decides to become friends with his wife. Geez, that's rough. You've got another guy who got busted with a prostitute who turned out to be a guy and is having issues with his now grown daughter he's never paid attention to and his sex life with his ex-wife is amping up. *yawn* You've got another guy that keeps bitching about how whipped he is because his wife orders him around, but he actually loves her. *yawn* And the 4th guy I actually like (he's why I tuned in) but his wife was cheating on him with his boss who mysteriously died. Yeah, didn't grab me at all. PASS!

I just saw Pushing Daisies today. It's kind of totally glorious. Definitely see it. It's sweet/adorable almost to a level I can't take, but the visuals are a complete treat and it has a fairy-tale like quality with the narration.

What I also like is this fairy-tale-like dark and almost gruesome side to it, the main premise being about death and all, and like a lot of fairy tales they skim over the death and violence in a sort of casual way that makes you almost not notice it. But it's certainly there, and I think leaves a nice opening for the show to delve into its own dark side, when it chooses to.

(And, well, in the space of about forty minutes I've fallen completely in love with Lee Pace and his eyebrows, and just now finally figured out where I've seen him, which was bugging me all episode. Wonderfalls! This automatically makes it ten times more awesome.)

Eeee! Aaron! Okay, yes, MUST SEE.

Although it does look kind of derivative of "Tru Calling." Which I, er, never watched and really kind of should.

The other vampires were drinking blood, so I don't understand why the main guy is shooting up! I can see there will be no humor and I can accept that, but I would like some better writing. Right now, there is hardly any reason for the main character to be a vampire if it's just going to be another detective show. Dresden was a detective show, and it had potential because he was battling the supernatural. I don't think there is a need for another flat-out detective show whose only hook is that the detective is a vampire. There has to be a reason why the vampire bit is pertinent.

He was shooting up the blood rather than drinking it because it keeps his dark side in check, don't you see? Or some such utter twaddle. They also need to 'splain why this particular vampire actually wants to keep his dark side in check? What makes him different? Whence the do-good conscience=y impulse?

And he never really had a "client" per se in this episode, unless you count Josef, but he was on it before Josef called him, so...what? He sees an internet newscast about a dead body and just randomly shows up? Why? Oh, I guess because this other girl he's been stalking following for 18 years since he rescued her from his Evil Ex™ did the broadcast? WEAK premise, guys.

Bad writing. I'll give it another couple of eps, but...it ain't promising.

My husband was very unimpressed, and he liked Dresden. I think the difference is that Dresden had a reason to be a wizard--most of his cases had a supernatural tie-in. This show has a vampire, and I can't figure out why he needs to be one. If the writers are going for a pure detective show, this baby will bomb big time. There are plenty of those already on the air.
