  • I bought S2 of "Lois and Clark" the other day, and we watched the first disc last night. Have I raved about how much I OMG love this show lately? We have a hero who is, for want of a better word, perfect (so what if he's a Stu? He's Superman. Shut up). We have a love interest who is terribly, terribly flawed...but tries to overcome them. Lois is petty, selfish, slightly-back-stabby, condescending, and egotistical. But she's also vulnerable, insecure, sweet, and usually lets her better nature take over after she throws a tantrum. This makes a nice change from the standard formula of the guy being a horrible bastard and changing for the "love of a good woman."

We have intact marriages of people who really love each other. Martha and Jonathan are wonderful and truly in love, and Perry dearly loves Alice--even though I don't think we've ever actually met her on-screen. But she's a presence, and because he loves her, we do too.

The villains are delicious also. I love Lex's layers, and the Prankster made me remember why I loved Bronson Pinchot when he was on "Perfect Strangers."

And there's snark. Lovely, lovely snark. I think I may be to the point where, if a show doesn't have snark, it can still be a "good" show for me, but it doesn't rise to a standard of excellence.

  • My Muse is a sadistic bastard. I've got 2300-or-so words of Jayne-torture, and I'm not done yet. The stuff that happened to him in "Cerberus"? That ain't nothin', baby. At least that was in third person. Jeepers. I keep coming up with new memories to torment him with, new ways to dig the knife in. And this is a character I actually like. I'd hate to see what would happen if I turned Antubis loose on Eve or Kennedy. *shudders*

I was reading the shooting script for "Bushwhacked," and found another Jayne/Zoe moment. The "basketball" game at the start? There's a lot of dialogue in that scene that didn't actually make it onscreen. And Wash and Zoe are on opposing teams, with Wash and Jayne on the same team. Wash hollers "Cover my wife!" and Jayne says "Every time you ain't lookin'." *snerk*

  • Movie Quote Meme answers for the two that didn't get guessed:

"I didn't know you had that."
"That's why they call it a concealed weapon."
    -- Jake Speed.

Free will. It's like butterfly wings: once touched, they never get off the ground. No, I only set the stage. You pull your own strings. -- Devil's Advocate.

  • We're going shopping in Park City tomorrow as part of my scheme to get us out of the house more. I may drag us to the drive-in tonight. "Cars" is playing with PotC:DMC, and "Lady in the Water" is playing with "Superman Returns." Mmm, choices. We saw "Monster House" yesterday. I liked it, but I didn't love it. Actually being a writer has started making me analyze why a movie doesn't work for me, which is an interesting process. But it's worth seeing; the animation is gorgeous.

  • The 2-liter soda bottle I was saving money for [livejournal.com profile] writercon in has been retired in favor of a silly-looking elephant bank that I picked up at Wally World for $8. I'm going to continue to put money away, and save it for things like carvings and vacations. Wish me luck in that endeavor; I spend money like a maniac.

  • I've gotten my refund from Paypal for the comics I never got. Now I have to go hunting the one again. Honestly, I wonder if something happened to the seller; there's at least three of us that got stiffed on our widgets in that batch of auctions...and Paypal said they were able to recover the money from the seller, so the money was accessible by them. I don't know if they'll actually go into your checking account to recover money or if they only take it out of your Paypal account, though. I never leave money in my Paypal account.

I loved Lois and Clark during it's first season. There was something so utterly charming about Clark loving being Superman. I loved how each episode opened with him playing baseball with himself or doing something else just for the sheer joy of it. Plus, I thought the initial premise of the first episode was so very good. If you could fly anywhere, practically instantaeously what would you do? In a word, travel. And Clark obviously had. Plus he had the best parents in the world (a staple of the Superman mythos but executed extremely well here) and he was competent at his day job. The second season I liked. By the third they'd started getting rather silly but I've thought seriously about getting that first season.

I've got to start reading this story. I've friended so many new people since Writer Con it's taking me awhile to get to everyone's fic. I look forward to catching up.

Well, the story I'm talking about in this entry hasn't been posted anywhere yet. It's very much a work in progress, and I don't post those unless they're as complete on my hard drive as I can make them. I have a bad tendency to whine go on and on about whatever thing I'm working on at the moment; check out my random urges and apocalyptothon tags. However, I've got sixty others you can read if you've a mind to. LOL

Yes, I'm loving S2 of Lois and Clark. I don't remember S3 all that well, because I have a brain like a sieve and it was a long time ago.

Yikes! 60! I'm trying to catch up with the people I friended since Writer Con and you are on the list. It just may take me a little while. In the meantime, I have lots of good reading. :)

I'm not certain which comics you are missing, but there are very reputable shops on line that might be able to help you track down the issues that you want.
