KILL YOUR DARLINGS.
Jan. 15th, 2009 01:28 pmI know this rule. I do.
I'm just...having a hard time with it.
I realize that the pie scene goes on too long. I even know why. (Because I was flailing around trying to figure out how to end it.) Ditto for a couple of other things near the end.
The problem is that I love these scenes. I don't want to trim them or excise them altogether.
Alas, I must. They drag the ending down.Bad. Badly. ("Badly's an adverb. Who taught you grammar?")
Therefore. In the interests of editing the damb thing into some semblance of not sucking, I've printed out the last fourteen pages, and I'm going to take a red pen to them the old-fashioned way, eyes on paper.
Wish me luck.
