agilebrit: (D'Argo -- Shut up)
I just spent the last three hours wrestling with our FRELLING taxes. Yes, I'm one of those people who waits until the last minute. This year, it was complicated by the fact that we had an HSA distribution, and mondo capital gains from selling stock so we could buy the airplane.

We owe the IRS over two thousand dollars, over and above what we already paid by withholding. We owe the state about ten percent of that.

We live simple lives, really, notwithstanding all our toys. We're debt-free and don't live beyond our means, so we can pay it. It's not a problem, for us. Honestly, I'd rather pay the ENTIRE amount when the time comes rather than have them take it out bit by bit anyway--which is a whole 'nother issue. The only thing that nearly gave me a heart attack was that I thought we might owe a penalty. Although why we should owe them a penalty for underpaying, when they don't pay interest when we OVERpay, is a question for the ages.

Yeah. I need some serious retail and restaurant therapy now. We're going to buy some patio furniture later.

As aforementioned, I wrestled with the taxes for over three hours today. Afterwards, we hied over to the local Smith's Marketplace for a patio set. Naturally, it wouldn't fit in the back of the PT Cruiser, so we came home, the Hubby hopped into the Willys, and he brought home the table. The chairs are, naturally, out of stock, but they should get some in this week.

And then I hurt my back putting the gorram table together.

*sigh*

I gave the Hubby a pathetic look, and he took us to Joe's Crab Shack for dinner. Crawfish Etouffee OMG. *drools uncontrollably*

And now I'm sitting here with ice on my back watching "Drive," which we taped. I'm really liking this show.

Cats are strange critters. This is an indisputable fact. I have owned (or been owned by) three cats. None of them are what I would call "normal." Of course, what's "normal" for a cat is an open question. I mean, really, it's no wonder that so many superstitions surround them.

John Scalzi, for those who have missed the wank going on at [livejournal.com profile] sfwa, is a write-in candidate for President of the Science Fiction Writers of America. I haven't actually read any of his books, but I'm going to make it a point to look for them next time I'm at the bookstore. Or...hey. Abebooks. Because the man makes me laugh and I'm close to thinking he's rather brilliant.

Anyway. He makes a post about his cat killing a couple of bunnies, and the comments explode with stories about the bloodthirsty little beasts (cats, not bunnies, although an argument could be made...).

I posted about our Audrey-kitty as well. I'm "Julie," down there at the bottom. Everyone on my flist who has cats will nod knowingly at the post and the comments. Go forth, read, and be entertained.

In other news, I slept really crappily last night. Blargh.

But I need to figure out what's next in the WerewolfFic. Life has just gone disatrously wrong for my characters. Now I need to decide if it's ever going to be right again.
