agilebrit: (D'Argo -- Shut up)

I just spent the last three hours wrestling with our FRELLING taxes. Yes, I'm one of those people who waits until the last minute. This year, it was complicated by the fact that we had an HSA distribution, and mondo capital gains from selling stock so we could buy the airplane.

We owe the IRS over two thousand dollars, over and above what we already paid by withholding. We owe the state about ten percent of that.

We live simple lives, really, notwithstanding all our toys. We're debt-free and don't live beyond our means, so we can pay it. It's not a problem, for us. Honestly, I'd rather pay the ENTIRE amount when the time comes rather than have them take it out bit by bit anyway--which is a whole 'nother issue. The only thing that nearly gave me a heart attack was that I thought we might owe a penalty. Although why we should owe them a penalty for underpaying, when they don't pay interest when we OVERpay, is a question for the ages.

Yeah. I need some serious retail and restaurant therapy now. We're going to buy some patio furniture later.

I always wait until the last minute too. This year especially, because I know we're going to owe something and I have no intention of paying early. As you say, it should be a two-way thing but it never is. I'll have everything figured out by this evening. *sigh* We live simple lives too, so it seems unfair that we have to pay more taxes because we have less debt and less mortgage interest.

And OHSHIT. I just realized that I didn't put Da Boy's SS# on the gorram form. OHSHIT. @#$%&!

We do quarterly payments. I really don't know when we file since an accountant does it all. We have really complicated taxes! Grrrr. You would not believe the last tax bill we got. Since my hubby is "self-employed" per se, there's no taxes taken out. Then we have to figure out with the accountant how much to pay every quarter. Let's just say I have no money right now. Stupid taxes.

Oh, gawd, the Hubby had to do that when he was flight instructing. What a total pain in the ass. I feel for you.

I gave up figuring our taxes when my husband started working in multiple states.

I hate receipts, columns, and numbers. *grumble*
