And Jim Butcher is fabu. We got to hear him read from the latest Dresden Files book yesterday afternoon, and then last night he did an unscheduled reading from his new steampunk novel--neither of which are out yet. Both of them are going to be awesome. He is super down-to-earth and also very funny; I am so glad I got to meet him. Are you jealous? You should be. :p

I've gotten a little work done. I'm having a debate with myself on whether I want to water a scene down for the sake of a PG-13 rating or not, and still haven't come down on a side yet, although I'm leaning heavily toward "no." Part of the problem is that markets are thin anyway for something that's 9000 words long, so I'm already limiting myself via word count. Ah well.

I've gotten ten books signed and hope to get the rest autographed in 40 minutes or so. Oh, hey, they have moved it to the lobby, which I just found out this second, and I'm camped out here anyway (because the wifi in my room kind of sucks), so. I'm a little stunned that the line isn't longer, but a lot of people have left already, and most folks probably got everything signed the other day.

I miss my CONduit peeps, but this is fun and also JIM BUTCHER.

I might just hate you. Jim Butcher!

He is lovely and you should make an effort to see him. I got all my books signed by him, plus the DVD set of the TV show. It's always nice when the people you admire professionally turn out to be awesome human beings, and Jim is.

I am so very jealous! Like you said, it's nice when they turn out to be good people as well as great writers.
I once had the opportunity to hear Neil Gaiman read and answer questions, and he seemed to be someone I'd enjoy spending time with too.

I would just love to hang out with Jim and listen to him expound for several hours. If you get the chance to see him, do go; you won't regret it. In fact, I'd recommend that you make a point of it.

Reading Butcher is so familiar and comfortable. He's like my older twin brother, separated at birth (although he is actually much younger than me!). It must be that Midwestern upbringing. He doesn't live far from Kansas City and often plays in Kansas (role-playing).

He is awesome, and I feel more vicariously awesome that I'm a fan of his now.

i want to throw livejournal into the fire of a thousand suns for locking up my linux netbook here for about 8 minutes just loading a page, but...

Jim Butcher is awesomesauce! I miss him! The last couple cons I went to, there were so f'ing many people that it was impossible to do more than say 'hi'. (Granted, one of those was D*C, so you know, but still!)

He's gonna be in Houston in August, but I don't know if I'll be able to go, since a 3hr drive is a little more than I like to do for a 'day trip' and hotel rooms cost monies. If he'd just swing over to my actual big-ish city, I could con from my apt! =)

If that's a smallish con, you should make an effort to go, and spend one night--maybe at a cheaper hotel than the con one, or you can go through one of the discount places like Expedia? Seriously, he just hung out with a bunch of us in the lobby for a couple of hours each night, and he's super nice.

Like I say, I missed my CONduit peeps, but this was just amazing.

i have no idea how big/small it is...

funny story - first time i went to a con to meet Jim - we all 'invaded an IHOP' - his idea. =) there were like 12 of us. it was awesome. *g*

at another con - some friends and i gave Jim a couple hours to be 'just a guy' - b/c we ordered pizza and sat on the floor in the hotel lobby and ppl walked by for a good hour or so and didn't even realize he was sitting there on the floor. but it was really cool b/c he got some time to hang out w/ Fred (his BFF from before he was 'famous' *g*) and be a random dude at a con, instead of 'author or awesome books guy'.

So yeah - if I can find a way to swing the cash, I'll go. Otherwise - I'll have to keep waiting. *lesigh*

Man, that looks awesome. And big. But with all the media people there, maybe the authors won't have as many people cluttering them up? Walter Koenig is very cool, as are Tracy and Laura Hickman. You should totally go.

Yeah - a lot of my 'er, i dunno' comes from 'oh hai, bank acct having no monies in it'.

If I'd never met Jim before, I'd do a lot more twisting myself into knots to be able to go.

But, yeah, unless someone decides to send me a con ticket and a hotel reservation pre-paid for my b-day, it's v. likely I won't go. I'll be lucky if I can swing a flight back to my parents' for the holidays this year.

*sadface* Well, stranger things have happened? Good luck; I hope you can at least get to your folks' place.
