Of what I've accomplished so far.

In 2010, I penned 28,900 words. All year. Four stories.
I skipped 2011. Roleplay ate my brain.
In 2012, I penned 36,200 words. All year. Three stories.

In under two weeks, I've scribbled 27,600 words.

Now, these aren't "complete" words. Just because a story has an END at the bottom doesn't mean it's finished. I'm banging out words so fast that I'm sure they suck, and whatever number I end up with will undoubtedly be revised up or down as I actually squish these things into some semblance of "good."

But I like this process. It's working. I have outlines, I have plans, I hit the Great Swampy Middle and don't have time to get bogged down, and I never get to the point where I hate a story because I'm not flailing around trying to figure out what's Next.

It's still early days; I'm not halfway through the month and the edits haven't pinged my radar yet. Hell, for a panicked moment yesterday, I couldn't even remember how Angry Bitter Angel ended. And it's not easy.

But it's working.

That's pretty cool!!

Were you rollplaying on LJ? That's...rather cool, too.

I was totally roleplaying on LJ, and I met the person I was separated at birth from, twenty years apart, apparently. She is amazing and I <3 her. We play original characters--I play Ben from my (as-yet-unpublished) novel and a couple of short stories, and she plays his honest-to-capital-G-God Guardian Angel and Partner in Crime Doing Good and Fighting Demons. (see icon) Also, his Mistress in the Ben-is-a-slave 'verse.

But, at this point, I'm just really happy that this process is working.

I completely understand. All my writing projects are based on roleplaying games. My current project is based on a game I'm playing in and I run three friends in alternate versions of it by email so that I can work out lumps and kinks and make up background. It's so much fun.

You used to talk about Ben a lot on your LJ. Haven't seen him mentioned recently. Glad he's still around.

I've got a story about him in the hopper for this project, although it'll be told from his wife's POV. I'm going to work on that one next. In the meantime, he's having adventures in the roleplay.

I think I stopped talking about him so much because, really, no one wants to read roleplay logs except the people involved and I figured folks were getting bored.

...and I just realized I'm logged in as him, but I'm too lazy to switch accounts. :p

None of my characters have their own LJ account. I bet their jealous.

Considering what I do to the poor boy in RP, they're probably much happier, to be honest. Demon fighting isn't all it's cracked up to be, even with a kickass angel partner.

Rachel Griffin also spends some of her time fighting demons. She merely lacks the blog. Also, she had the additional disadd of being twelve...which made everything tremendously more horrible. That game is on hold for a bit. When we come back, she will be seventeen...which strikes me as a much more appropriate demon fighting age. Hoping that will make her life a bit less miserable. (For one thing, when you fall in love at 12, you are merely doomed to unhappiness. A 17 year old girl could actually conceivably get the boy.)

Gyah, Ben has a hard enough time fighting demons and he's a grown man and was in the Army and is a werewolf.

Lately I've been piling more mundane traumas on his head, though.

Yeah...I was amused recently when we had the one day when the stuff my character was upset about was stuff a real 12 year old would be upset about: trouble with friends rather than dire destroy the world stuff.

Apparently this is the year of writing early... b/c I've been working on what's turned out to be an epic level fanfic (size-wise anyway) b/c I've already written close to 30k words in the course of like 3 weeks. (We started shortly after YT. 'We' being a friend and I - we plotted for like the 2 weeks up to the point YT fics were due.) I could barely get 25k words written in 3 months for my bigbang a few years back and now I've penned almost 30k in 3 weeks? IDEK what's going on there.

I'll tell you this though - I ain't mad at it. =)

It took me three months to write 15K words last year. I blew past that in the first week of this project.

Tell you what, though, if I hadn't planned it out, I'd be sooooo lost and frustrated. Suddenly, this pantser is very, very fond of outlining. It has saved my bacon.

Outlining has it's uses. I had one for my bigbang and *still* almost didn't get all the words in. 2 4-hour plane rides made for some serious writing time though. =)

For this monster my friend and I are working on, we have a rough guideline and goalposts we wanna hit, but that's kind of all. It's working tho - b/c between the two of us, I think we're at nearly 40k, which is pretty epic!

So, I say - GO WRITER PEOPLE! XD
