Well. Is this thing on?

So LJRP ate my brain and a good portion of my life for a really long time. And I met some terrific people and I've had a blast, but it wasn't good for me on a professional level, because all my creative juice was going into that instead of writing I could, you know, get paid for.

But. After a discussion with my main RP partner about how out-of-control this had gotten, I've cut back on the RP and am back on the writing horse again; I've completed another short story starring Ben that is not filled with angst and death, and I'm 10K words into a novelette that should come in around 15K if all goes as planned (HAH).

During the time I was RPing, I continued subbing my stuff, and there's nothing new on the acceptance front, although I seem to be getting a better class of rejections these days, even on my older stuff, so IDEK.

Also, I'm going to WorldCon in Chicago this year; I have my membership bought and the hotel room reserved, and roomies. So that'll be cool.

Anyone still here? Or has everybody migrated over to DW because of LJ's asshattery?

Largely unchanged - which is good, as in my case 'change' equates to deterioration. What changes have occurred have followed that pattern, from losing teeth to losing Chrystle to my washing machine breaking down - which last may be a blessing in disguise, as I mentioned at the time.

But I'm still gainfully employed, housed (after a fashion) and I'm at least faced in the direction of improvement, so I'm grateful for what I have.

[She's just now left town for her LDAC “summer camp,” at which I would have had a blast at her age.]

Yeah, I just found the roleplay eating all my time and energy. Nothing else interesting was happening in my life and no one really wants to read RP logs (especially ones that go on for 400 posts) except the people involved, so while I was very very busy on LJ over at SWS as werewolf_hacker and dogeat_underdog and telling collaborative interactive improvisational stories over there, no one here was interested in that.

I eventually decided that it wasn't healthy, that the instant feedback I was getting felt good but it wasn't where I wanted to be. So I got together with my main RP buddy (who is awesome, and who has actually come down for an IRL visit because we click that way), and she and I decided to concentrate more on writing we can sell and cut way back on the RP. So, long story short, I'm back. We'll see how long it lasts.

I'm glad I had you to come back to.

Well, I've brought Snippet Saturday back and I'll be updating this thing with progress reports on my latest project, which I am going to sit down and work on today, come Hell or high water. I've dithered about on it for two solid days, and it's time to open up Write or Die in a new tab and start scribbling. If I churn out crap in the scribbling, so be it. Crap can be edited. A blank page cannot.

Goal today: 2000 words.

According to my RP activity logs, I am more than fine. *grins* I've been on LJ, just not... here.

I know a lot of RPers moved wholesale over there after LJ borked the comment pages real good for their purposes. I still haven't decided if I'm going to renew my paid accounts or not, but I'm still here.

I might have made the migration, but my paid accounts don't run out here until June and my main RP partner stayed on LJ. And there's also the fact that the DW sixwordstories frowns on threads rated PG-13 and above, which, let's face it, most of Ben and Guri's devolve to because their lives suck and are full of pretty graphic violence.

I did create placeholder accounts over there for this, Ben, and my ex-demon; maybe a couple of others. I'll decide in June if I'm staying here or going there.

I thought SWS on LJ didn't allow adult stuff either, so there was an 'adult SWS'... though, I don't play/write in that comm, so not 100% on that.

I got tired of LJ long long ago, but w/ the killing of the subject lines that broke many of the ways in which I used the site and the kingpin dude's ridiculously asshatted and rude declaration that he doesn't give a shit what the user-base *actually* wants/thinks, that was kind of it.

The SWS on LJ doesn't allow smut but seems fine with graphic violence, according to the rules. There's a smutty six word stories on both LJ and DW, but I don't smut, and I'm not really comfortable joining a comm where that's a feature. Which is probably odd, but it's a personal preference. I have enough on my plate at SWS as it is; my activity logs are insane.

I assume the LJ and DW SWS's are run by different mods, then? B/c otherwise it seems odd that LJ says 'okay to violence' and the DW one doesn't.

I'd think if you put a warning up front, the rest of the thread shouldn't matter... but that's just me and I'm not the SWS mod.

The one here says "Don't post anything dealing with raping someone or anything that will lead to sexually explicit content. That is meant for your journal. This is not the place or the time for that" and posits nothing about ratings pertaining to anything else.

The one on DW says "Don't post anything that is considered PG-13 and higher as your story. This is an "open to all ages" comm, let's keep it family friendly." It also says that the LJ SWS is being imported to DW, so IDEK. I mean, PG-13 is too high a rating for a thread? I'm a little gobsmacked by that, but there it is.

Now... maybe they just mean the initial post, and then the rest of the RP can devolve from there. But if they want to keep it family-friendly, I'm sorry, this stuff with Ben and Guri is gritty and awful and I wouldn't want my kid reading it, TBH, partly because Ben drops a lot of f-bombs and partly because of the demons breaking his bones and carving up his Guardian like a Thanksgiving turkey in one recent, memorable thread. My other guy has gotten his wings torn off his back by demons. In graphic detail. Twice. I am not a good person.

So... here I stay. At least for now.

I am indeed back on the writing horse! The new short story starring Ben has already garnered three rejections, two of which were "didn't quite work for me"s from places where that means they actually read the entire thing. It's at IGMS right now.

The current thing is the "he won his soul and lost the war" story I've been wanting to write ever since I heard that lyric line, but just never had a plot to hang on. I'm hoping to finish it by June, and for it to be my WotF entry for this quarter. It is hard slogging, though.

I think that's part of the reason the RP captured me so completely for so long. RP, with the right partner, is easy and just flows off the keyboard because you're bouncing off another person right there and ideas beget ideas. Writing by yourself is lonely.

I used to follow you on my old journal, which has since been demolished. I made this one, friended you because I still had hope, and never expected to hear from you again. I HAVE SEEN IT TWICE. My expectations were ridiculously high--and it exceeded them in every way. Also, I found out yesterday that Shane Black is writing and directing IM3 and I can now die happy.

Here's hoping! <3 I gotta admit, I've sort of become a fanfiction addict when it comes to writing. I've completed three novel-length original stories, and about thirty novel-length fanfics. I need an intervention. BUT, it does serve as practice. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I KNOW RIGHT. If Joss isn't on for Avengers 2 I don't know what I'll do. The Avengers has eaten my brain and I just stalk the fanfiction archives and write either bromance one-shots between Tony and Bruce, or angsty adventure backstories for Black Widow and Hawkeye. I regret nothing.

It's been a ton of fun, but I'm not sure it's been good for me. However, maybe I can come at the writing with fresh eyes now that I've had a hiatus from it. I just hope I'm not stuck in a rut; my first story was about Ben and the one I'm working on now has angels and demons in it. Or, well, one (rather overwhelmed) angel, poor fellow. I am a horrible person and I regret nothing.
