So, yeah. I scribbled two paragraphs of New Story yesterday. Six sentences.
It's now gone through no less than six edits. And it's still all I have.
Working title? "Parents of the Zombie Apocalypse." Because, I guess, everyone needs to write a zombie story once, right? *headdesks*
Why can't I write something halfway normal for once?

Ideas...
Date: 2010-04-18 08:20 pm (UTC)In a far-reaching and technologically advanced future, where humans have "miracle" medicine affording them eternal life, as well as an endless variety of "cosmetic" body options, what happens to a lone "sleeper" astronaut from the early 22nd century when his/her derelict ship returns to Earth after spending many centuries on a long-period orbit?
Your protag is one of the few surviving members of an elite warrior society (think Sparta) which has been obliterated by a numerically superior empire. (S)he survives alone in some backwater corner of the conqueror's domain, under an assumed name, dining on ashes of the past. Suddenly, one fateful evening, the grown child of one of your protag's best friends arrives half-dead on the protag's doorstep, and clutching a message. War is afoot, and there is one last chance for the protag to join with his/her commrades in a moment of glory and redemption.
It is 1957. After the successful assassination of Hitler in 1944, and subsequent removal of the Nazi Party from power, Germany is recovered from the grueling political and economic nightmare following the Allied takeover and reformation of the country. Your protag is a young German Air Force officer who is on the secret shortlist for Dr. Von Braun's ambitious crewed space rocket program. However, agents from both the USSR and the USA have been in contact. One of them offers your portag a small fortune if your protag will steal Von Braun's plans and defect to the United States, the other informs your protag that your protag's beloved older sibling -- missing since the war -- is still alive behind the Iron Curtain, and will be put to torture and death if the protag does not get Von Braun's plans to the Russians.
It's a foggy evening on the Bay. Your protag is used to working nights as a not-too-clean detective in the homicide office in one of the city precincts. Most cases, the protag calls it straight up. Once in awhile, money comes down from the corrupt mayor to keep things hush-hush. Your protag's conscience doesn't suffer much, until the one time when your protag sees a young Dryad gunned down by the mayor's hit Trolls. Cold blood. What will your protag do? As a licensed Lycan, (s)he can sniff out any clue. Things are made more complicated when an old flame arrives to scratch your protag behind the ears __just so__ and suddenly there is a lot more at stake than dollars and dead dames.
Now, go write....
