Is it just me, or does it annoy anyone else when a character racks the slide back on an automatic weapon when, by rights, they should already have one in the chamber? Right after a re-load, okay, yes, absolutely, but any other time?

I'm just sayin'.

Not that Ben is armed and dangerous right now or anything. My brain goes to strange places when Ben is stressed.

ALSO. Does it seem rare to you that they rack the slide back after a reload, even though the slide has locked on the empty chamber? Or is this just me, remembering badly?

Tell me about it. Years and years and then some years ago, I saw a Murder, She Wrote episode about a riot in a women’s prison; Adrienne Barbeau, as one of the convicts, racked the slide of a pump shotgun every time she wanted to make a point. Since a pump shotgun generally holds no more than four shells, she HAD to have emptied the damn thing, without ever firing a shot, just to accomplish the desired dramatic effect.
