"Wow, how did THAT slip by?"
So, we've got these people promising us the sky, right? New technology. UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE. Etc, etc. What do they want in return?
Well, in reality, I'm guessing they actually want to eat us (not having seen the original series, and not being spoiled at all for this one), because I'm a suspicious bitch that way. But they don't say that, oh, no. Just "some minerals that are abundant on your planet" (like the CALCIUM FROM YOUR BONES). And our love and devotion, too, let's not forget that. And your journalistic integrity? Yeah, let's just stick that in a lock box, you don't need that.
I thought the symbology of the crucifix getting smashed at the beginning was a little anvillicious, but apropos. Because, you know, we shouldn't cling to our religion. Or our guns, I guess, because that's not in the interests of "peace, always." We don't need that gun and religion stuff anyway, right? Not with them giving us everything.
So, yeah, I'm seeing parallels here, and I'm not the only one. Which is probably why a couple of people have been replaced already, although I'm not seeing any obvious conservative cred in their previous works.
We've got a good-guy priest. This is a dead giveaway to anyone who pays attention to stuff like this. It breaks the paradigm of "Evil Child-Molesting TV Priest who only wants power in his parish and to Use His Position for Nefarious Means." Yeah, you writers went too far there. Tch.
So. We'll see how this goes. I'm along for the ride.
Also, characters played by Alan Tudyk need to stop getting skewered through the chest. I'm just sayin'.

Date: 2009-11-04 09:16 pm (UTC)I wonder how much things will change...because I assume that they already have quite a few episodes filmed/written so are they just going to change the visitors into being republicans once they get a new writer in there or what?
