*eyes this space by where I sit*

Well. I've got three new, large bookcases in my basement, waiting to be filled and organized. This is a good thing, because it's needed doing for a long time. This will go a long way toward getting the space down there clean enough that it'll be a place where I actually want to spend time, although there's still a bunch of other stuff that needs organizing. Who knew I had that much wall art? I sure didn't. Maybe some of it should go on the actual walls. I mean, we've lived in this house for eight and a half years. I think we're staying.

The next thing I really should tackle is this space beside me. I've got a TV cart with a bookcase on top of it. The TV cart itself is a disorganized horrible mess. The bookcase is overflowing with TV DVD box sets, RDJ movies (16 of those, behold my obsession, I really should actually watch some of them) and my "look how nerdy I am" collection of Iron Man and Serenity STUFF, along with 1/64th scale diecast cars like Pintos and Gremlins. Don't ask. I can't open the bottom drawer of my filing cabinet because of this mound of... books? Mainly books, yeah, stacked in front of it. "Stacked" being a term I'm using very very very loosely.

What I really need, is a taller, deeper bookshelf for the DVDs. That way, the Nerdy Stuff can be put in front of the DVDs rather than taking up a full shelf of its own. Then the small bookshelf that's there can go downstairs and be used to store... more books! Because, trust me, what I have down there might be enough FOR NOW, but it won't be for long at the rate I buy them.

So. What I need to do is some measuring, and some math. And then I need to write the dimensions down in a place where I'll actually have them with me next time I go to Wally World.

Yeah, the "over my head" icon is particularly appropriate, I think. Seriously, this is scary.

I need bookcases badly, but I need to wait until my offspring take some of their stuff before I can indulge in bringing anything else into the house. Something has to go! Until then, I just keep hiding books in stacks here and there...

It's an intimidating project, but it's going to feel so good to have my books in some semblance of organization again. Seriously, it's a disaster area down there. Not to mention all the other STUFF that just needs to GO.

But I do feel like I accomplished something today. :)

What's scary is that your house is just like mine - no die-cast Pintos, but still - the desperate need for shelving seems to be a constant in the lives of writers ;)

(you don't mention if you have the same trouble finding your floor that I've had ... for being a stationary object, a house can be hard to keep up with!)

... Floor? There's a floor?

I did, finally, find the floor in this Black Hole next to where I sit. This space is now halfway organized.

We'll see how long it actually stays that way...
