I love Robert Downey, Jr. If he's in a movie, I will go see it, no questions asked. He's one of those actors guaranteed to get my butt in a seat. This is not a secret.

I also love vampires. As long as they don't frakking sparkle in the sunshine. Because that's just wrong. This, also, is not a secret.

HOWEVER.

Anne Rice will always be conflated in my mind with the "you're interrogating this from the wrong perspective and straining my Dickensian principles to the max" wank that resulted when she got in a pissing war with some reviewers at Amazon. She strikes me as having an overinflated sense of her own writing. Everyone needs an editor, Anne. Even you. I have never picked up one of her books, nor do I intend to.

THUS, I do NOT want to see RDJ as Lestat, regardless of his fitness for the role. If he plays it, I will go, and hold my nose, because Lord knows I've seen him in some godawful movies (US Marshals, I'm looking at you, and yeah, Singing Detective, don't try to hide behind US Marshals, your butt's hanging out).

If Robert was to play a vampire, I'd rather see him as Jack Fleming, p_n_elrod's vampire private investigator. Because that would be a cool period piece (1930's! Speakeasies!), and I like Jack. Jack is cool. If you haven't read any of these, you should run out and find "Bloodlist," the first one.

And I'll stop babbling now, and write. I was hoping to break 100K today.

Her early vampire books are excellent (and edited.) Mr Downey, however brilliant, does not work for me as a blond, French 19 year old.

Blond and French, yes, please, he's smashing as a blond. *drool* Nineteen? MAYBE he could have pulled that off ten years ago (had he been sober then). Now? No.

I mean, I know he's The Hot Property in Hollyweird right now. This does not mean he should play Every Role Ever.

Yeah, I would watch it, especially since what little I've seen of the original Interview with the Vampire movie (a clip on Youtube of Armand and Brad Pitt's Louis talking about...something, I got bored halfway through) did not impress me that much, especially since Pitt seemed utterly wrong for the roll, and I'd be willing to watch almost anything with RDJ in it (which...huh, I have only seen him in two movies actually, should really get on that), but...I still don't see that it would work well. I think it could. But I still just really want to see him as Harry Dresden, so anything else vampire-related just seems mean. :p

As for Anne Rice in general, I've only read Interview, part of my campaign to find good vampire books that aren't Twilight, and I was...pretty unimpressed. Louis is so emo, about as bad as Edward, but--and I can't believe I'm saying this--he's actually worse that way, because he mopes about being a monster but doesn't do anything about it. At least Edward has made a choice not to eat people.

Yah, don't be hasty. As with all mortal flesh, she followed a bell curve - Interview With a Vampire really was neither particularly good nor memorable, though it did lay the groundwork for The Vampire Lestat, which was simply brilliant. The Queen of the Damned was nearly as much so, but it lacked that lustre. Tale of the Body Thief was back down around Interview level - some interesting concepts, but not particularly noteworthy. After that, gawd, I don't know how much mumbling to herself got printed. Three, four books? Who knows. Her flare was spent.

Considering the height of my Teetering Pile o' To Be Read would probably reach to the ceiling more than once, I don't know if I'd ever get to any of her books even if they weren't tainted by her better-than-you attitude.

But if Robert is in the movie, I will dutifully attend. *is pathetic*

Gotta hand it to RDJ, he's managed to resurrect his career against almost insurmountable odds.

I hope he manages to stay clean. No more drugs. He goes back to drugs, this resurgence of his could crash and burn very quickly.

From all the interviews I've read (and there have been many, because Iron Man turned me into a Drooling Fangirl), he knows the bullet he dodged. He thinks about it every day. And he knows what a tragedy it would be if he went back. So, hopefully, he'll stay on the straight and narrow. He's got People now, whose job it is to keep him there. Also, The Missus (Robert + Susan = OTP!), I believe, is a huge factor.

In the Oscar Roundtable Video, he talks about this 500-gallon tub of sake that his hosts wanted him to smash, and he was all "Dudes, you wanna get that away from me, because I had PLANS for Christmas, you know..." And he's also said that he's "allergic to drugs and alcohol--I break out in handcuffs." So, he's hyperaware, I think.

I'm a sucker for redemption stories. This one is HUGE.

Good for him. Sounds like he's finally realized that he's too old and life only gives you so many chances, before the fuckups become permanent.

He could go on a real run over the next ten years, in terms of capitalizing. Iron Man blew it all open for him.

Of course, to my mind the guy who surprised me most in Iron Man was Jeff Bridges. I've been a fan of his since TRON and was wondering how he'd do as a bad guy. I thought he was awesome. One of the most believable bad guys in a long time.

Seriously, he's got something like six projects in the hopper right now and they're talking franchise for Holmes AND Iron Man.

I love Jeff Bridges to pieces, he was awesome and really surprised me. But the whole movie was like that, really.

Okay, people are taking the vampire hype WAY too far. Seriously, even CW is going to have a vampire show. Oh my gosh, if I was a vampire, I'd KILL myself.

And I'm sorry, I do love RDJ myself, but... I can't see him as Lestat... and I've read the books (up until Blood & Gold). After "The Vampire Armand", Anne RiceLestat gets kind of whiny.

*just read her written review* Oh my word, has she lost her DAMN mind!? Giving her address like that? Talking like that? Oh, honey, exercise your right to say fuck you, but don't do it by belittling those who are simply exercising their right to an opinion, even if it hasn't been thought out in an intelligent manner, it's still AN OPINION.
