[Setup: Full moon, he's on the table, strapped down, wolfsbane wrapped around his chest to stop him Changing. Wolfsbane, for those of you keeping score at home, is toxic to werewolves...but it takes awhile to kill them. It also makes their blood so that vampires, when they drink it, get high. No needles yet, because Ange is a pit bull on his behalf.]

Ben awakened with a gasp, and she was right there for him, holding his hand. "Oh, god," he panted between clenched teeth. "Ange--"

"I've got you, puppy." Knowing how much mental agony he was in was nearly worse than seeing the physical pain. "You have to let me help you with this."

"Not--not doing...too good..."

"Look at me, Benji. For god's sake. Let me take this from you."

"Hate...the Thrall. Losing...bits of...myself..."

"Hate this worse." She squeezed his fingers. "Remember what it was like before. You'll lose more than bits this time. Saints preserve us, Ben, do it for me if not for yourself."

"Didn't know...you cared."

"Course I do, you idiot, if I didn't I wouldn't be here, aye?"

His eyes slid shut, and his breathing eased somewhat from its terrified huffing. "Not as bad...with you here. Easier."

"Let me make it easier still."

"Not...not yet. Can still stand it." A pained not-smile ghosted across his face. "You got me pants."

Ever notice how Ben just inspires this reaction in women? I adore the pants line, it's so Ben.

It's a little strange getting Ange's thoughts as well as Ben's in the same scene, but since I love them both, I don't mind.

I think I assumed that it was Ben's thought that 'she was right there for him, holding his hand.' I'm guessing because his name is the first in the snippit. If there's more before this in Ange's POV, it's probably fine.

Ah, okay. Yeah, that snippet is part of a much larger scene and there's all kinds of stuff that happens beforehand--she watches him crumble bit by bit over a three-day period, and this snippet is the culmination of the situation.
