Cracked 10,000 words in the new!Ben&Janni story.

They are non-linear words. I still have to write scenes that actually start this thing (because Heaven forbid I actually start at the beginning), and scenes that need to go in between to set up some of my new characters better. I still don't know who my Big Bad is, pulling strings behind the scenes.

Number of times I've broken Ben: 3

And these are small breaks, fractures, really. Tiny capitulations (in comparison to the big one that's coming later--and the one that comes after that is going to be even worse) that are gradually shattering him.

I have no idea how I'm going to put him back together after all this. Or even if I can put him back together.

*repeats mantra* It's a romance, not a tragedy. It's a romance, not a tragedy...

Really. It is.

Well. I don't actually write Romance in the strict sense of the word. More a general definition of "the character is somewhat whole at the end and gets a somewhat Happily Ever After with the Romantic Interest of His Choice." If it was a tragedy, someone important would die, or he'd go perma-wolf out in the scrub because he just couldn't take it anymore. And I'm not sure I can do that to the poor guy. I've got too much invested in him. I'm not opposed to snapping him right in half (I think I've proven that--again and again and again and AGAIN), but there has to be some sort of resolution that leaves him less broken at the end than he is at the middle.
