I called Ativa on the fact that their CD/DVD drive is recognizing and playing DVDs just fine but not even recognizing that there's a CD in the machine. Their suggestion was to exchange it.

Which would be fine and dandy, if I hadn't bought it on eBay on Dec 3. I'm not even sure I still have the box.

I guess what I'll do is have the Hubby tear into it when he gets home. After all, he fixed the other computer. This is probably something stupid that he can fix with a little soldering.

And if it's not, well, I guess I'll be in the market for a new CD/DVD burner.

I wonder if it's feasible to copy my Word CD onto a thumb drive from the one computer and transfer it over to the other. You'd think that would work, but I have no idea about this stuff.

Well. It might have helped had I not bought the thing right before we left on vacation last month--and had I actually tried to use it on more than movies before now. *sigh*

We hooked the dumb thing up to the other computer, and it does the same stuff. So it's not just me or my equipment.

However, I did manage to get Word onto this machine. So yay for that.
