Happiness is...

Finishing my read-through of the novelthing and having the same reaction Tony Stark did when he crashlanded in the desert after blowing up the Ten Rings.

Not bad.

And now I need to work on Mark II.

There's stuff in there that needs a better setup. There's other stuff that didn't get a payoff. There's emotional scenes that need more resonance. There's a few actions that should probably get heavier repercussions.

And perhaps not!Tony's "manic grin" should get...less of a workout. He seems to wear that expression a lot. Because he's just that way.

I need to go through and find repetitive phrases. Yes.

I hope you can pass on a draft copy for me to enjoy.
I have been getting REALLY curious.

But then how would I know the magnificent progress you made from first draft to final draft?
I don't want to miss out on any brilliant humor that may have to get rewritten or deleted in future edits.
Yes, I am flattering you outrageously to try and gain a peek, but it is sincere.

*laughs* Most of my edits consist of adding things, not subtracting them. My first drafts tend to be spare and outlinish--Ken Rand's Ten Percent Solution doesn't really work for me because I end up adding ten percent rather than subtracting, and I need to. I mean, witness the struggles I'm having right now fleshing out not!Harry even more than he was before because I didn't set him up enough at the start...

Of course, now I feel even more evil than I did before, because, poor guy.

You know, you are not making it any easier on my painful curiosity.
Bad enough you torture your characters, why must you be so cruel to me too.

Have you read the snippets?

Right now I'm in the read-aloud stage, where I'm figuring out what's wrong with the actual words (I find I'm repeating a lot of phrases again and again, and my characters say "shit" a lot). The whole thing is so not ready for public consumption yet, even the public consumption of beta readers. But it's getting there. :)

SEE! I'm gonna miss out on something, I just know it. ;>

Let me know when you are ready for a field test. I promise I am an easy to please (but honest) judge of storytelling.

*snerk* Trust me, the only thing you'll be "missing out on" is bad writing.

Might be ready by Saturday or so. We'll see. :)
