I did manage to crack 80,000 words this evening.

And I think I've got something, maybe. It'll necessitate going back and seeding it a little more and introducing yet more characters into something that's already pretty character-heavy--I think I ended up with ten POV characters in this thing, when all was said and done--but not!Tony has taken over and said "Yeah, this is mine after all, bitch, and what are you gonna do about it, huh?" And not!Harry is all "Hey, I was never the alpha dog here, and you know it, just send me off into the sunset with my dream girl and I'll be happy."

So, hell, I don't know. And this is why we call them "drafts." So we can write them and then edit them into something that hangs together and doesn't suck.

Well, 80K is a novel that can get published. 40K is just the "official definition" of "novel-length."
