Anyone know what sort of rifle is being commonly carried by our troops in Afghanistan? Regular front-line guys, not the Elites? Seems to me that the M-16 is the weapon of choice, but I may be outdated or flat wrong.

[livejournal.com profile] aadler? Anyone? Google is being singularly unhelpful here.

Hey, was randomly browsing journals and... I think you're one of [livejournal.com profile] modernelegance's friends? Anyway, I asked my brother, who's in the Marines, and he said Marines carry M16 A4's, and the Army carries Colt M4's.

Hope that helps, and hope it wasn't too weird getting a random comment lol.

Eee, thank you! I thought so, but wasn't sure. :) And I love random comments.

When I left Afghanistan (June 2006, I think), the M4 was the standard issue, though in most cases it was tricked out with handgrips, special sights (sometimes night vision), laserpoint, some even had a handgrip that would extrude a bipod.

Sorry I didn’t answer sooner. My wife has been hogging the laptop for work on that pesky doctorate.

Ooo. Laserpoint. *adds* Thanks!

And, hey. You're not at my beck and call here. Just because I'm on LJ 16 hours a day doesn't mean everyone else is. ;)

note most of them have to tick out their own weapons.. right? A friend of mine just sent his son overseas, and they've been working on getting the parts he needed for his M4 to be usable.. You'd think that stuff would all be provided..
