I've run into this before, but it didn't drive me as crazy then as it is right now.

I watched "US Marshals" on my computer, no problem. The DVD played perfectly. No problems. Bad movie, good DVD.

I tried to play "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" on my computer, and no go. It acts like it's trying to load it, but it never does, and when the drive finally stops acting like it's going nuts, it doesn't seem to think there's anything in the D drive.

CRAP. And they wonder why we download movies??? Is this some sort of weird copy-protection thing, or what? Why is my DVD drive fine with one movie and not another? I wanted to make a vid, dammit.

Anyone have any clues? I'm using WinXP Home, and using VLC to play movies. Is there a codec I need?

AUGH.

If it does this with Iron Man, I'm going to be pissed.

ETA: Problem solved, and very simply too. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] highlander_ii, who suggested something I should have thought of myself.

I was going to offer the incredibly simple: clean the DVD drive w/ one of those lens cleaner discs. I've had similar issues and that will sometimes clear it up.

Did that fix it then? =)

Yes! 7 yrs of MacGyver and I can fix DVD players with a lens cleaner! Woot! *g*

Well...kind of. I think I may need to hit it again. It worked, and then it didn't, and then it did again.

But at least it worked! Now I can seriously contemplate the fanvid I wanted to do...

Yay! Fanvid-making!

I figure - everyone else is way better at that than I am... I don't even know where I'd start. I also figure, if I can't do a 'fanmix', fanvids have no hope of evolving from my brain.

Well, I've never done one before, but KKBB has "Bad Day" written all over it. I need to pull up the lyrics and see what scenes fit where, though.

Honestly, I don't know where to start either. I guess... I should get the song on my hard drive somehow. That would be a good beginning. LOL

Amazon.com has MP3s for a couple cents (and sometimes more) cheaper than iTunes. Also - if you collect Pepsi points - 5 can get you one of lots of MP3s.

Or - you know, a friendly post to your f'list for someone to 'loan' you a copy... (I don't think I have that song or I'd offer.)

I can get it for a buck or so on Walmart's site, I think.

Lyrics. Lyrics first.

Lyrics are free! well - aside from the annoying banner and pop-up ads...
