So, in keeping with the "we always hurt the characters we love" theme, I decided to look at my original fiction and see where I stood in that department.

It's...not a pretty picture.

  • BeagleFic: This one is remarkably violence-free. Go me. It's the only one.
  • Gargoyles: Er. Dead baby, opening scene. Carnage throughout.
  • DragonFic: Exploding baby dragons. Charlie nearly dies in a space battle.
  • Merc&theSnake: Male and female protagonist both die. Medtech brings them back.
  • A&tS Male protag goes insane. Good times.
  • Werewolf Fic: Biting with subsequent wolferizing.
  • CatFeet: Story is about a serial killer. Nuff said.
  • BeeFic: Bees vs Faeries in a war over honey. Death and injury.
  • Abducted!Werewolf: Giant alien bugs kidnap the wrong Earthling. More carnage.
  • BearFic: Bear kills evil abbott.
  • Giant Bugs: Dog dies in opening scene. Did I mention I destroy the Pacific Ocean?
  • Bunny From Hell: Stuffed bunny wants to be Real. Current owner not able to make that happen. He smothers her. She's...five?
  • Faerie Show: Kidnapped faerie kills and eats prospective mate.
  • Not!Iron Man: Male protag gets the shit beat out of him and nearly dies. Female protag loses an eye.

Yeah. I think I have issues.

In other news, there's an Iron Man Friending Meme going on over at [livejournal.com profile] ironman_lounge. Go forth, make new friends!

Oh. Icon. Little more artsy than I usually do:

    Maybe you just like Drama?

    Drama...death and destruction...

I'm starting to wonder if I use it as a crutch.

Hmm you do like the violence hun. But then a story isn't interesting unless there's some sort of conflict.

I like violence and the like in fic it always seems more real if an author breaks the characters because real life isn't always sunshine and roses. I donno.

Yeah. I think maybe I just haven't gotten good enough at breaking my characters mentally rather than physically. I...may need to work on that little weakness.

Yup it's always an interesting aspect to see how events are affect a character internally that they may not be showing externally.

I need to work on both aspects I think. I mean come on the last time I tried that was that [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon fic I did last summer, and I don't really like how it turned out.

And sometimes I think I put them together a little too easily again. The actual!Iron Man fic being a case in point. *sigh*

I put the CSI:NY ficlet (the one you helped me on) together fairly quick too. But I actually really like it. So I donno. I think it's a matter of the story flow and the action and the internal stuff that helps make a fic great.

*I really need to go read that fic too -sighs- *

Oh, I didn't mean the fic, I meant the character. *shakes fist at ambiguous pronoun* Either that or I'm not breaking the character enough.

    That's...a fairly scary notion.

*laughs "damn that ambiguous pronoun" giggles*

Hmmmm I really couldn't say if you have or haven't broken the character in that fic enough... *trots over to read it so I have an opinion*
