On the not!Iron Man fic.

Yesterday, I filled in a couple of scenes between the time they get rescued and the final scene. Darling du jour? ...his head felt like a chinchilla was stuffed in his cranium... Yeah, you know that cotton-headed feeling? I was trying to describe it without using the cotton cliche.

Also, I've made my villain a little less MPD by explaining his motivations a little better. I think it works. Maybe.

Word count? 10,880.

And now I'm kind of to the point where I'm wondering if I'm spinning my wheels a bit and just adding stuff to add word count rather than advance the plot or expand characterization. I don't know where else to go with this.

Other than the werewolf place, which I don't want to do for a myriad of reasons. Which is weird, coming from me, but there you have it.

Is there a reason why you're trying to reach a word count. Is this intended to be a short story, novelette? I say advance the plot first and let everything fall into place.

I'd like to get a novel out of it, frankly. And I've had two people tell me it's "too short." But I'm at the point where I don't know what else I can do with it.

But, then, I haven't really poked it this morning, yet.

I say just advance the plot and finish the story. You can always go back and add more later. But if you're just putting filler in now then chances are you're going to have to cut it later.

Is the NotIronMan story a fanfic or one you're looking to get published because I know you do both?

Looking to get published, if I can find a market that'll have it. I haven't done fanfic in about a year and a half, and I don't want to go back to it at this point. "Iron Man" was the jumping off point for this, but I think the jerk-CEO-with-the-heart-of-gold and the uber-efficient PA are stock enough characters that I can get away with this. My character babbles a lot more than actual!Tony does, and his personality is different--he has less ragefulness, for one thing.

You didn't read it? I'm wounded. ;)

LOL. Don't even get me started on the backlog of readings I have to catch up on. In fact, I just got an email from the fine folks at Critters threatening to send some big burly men to my home to have their way with me if I didn't start churning out critiques. I'm not sure if that was a threat or an early Christmas gift. Assuming they don't know about me, I'll assume it was the former.

When you have it finished, I'll give it a gander.

But you're right. I think your characters are stock enough to make it original. Like I said, just let the story tell itself and you can always go back and flesh it out later.

*sporfle*

Honestly, it's as finished as I can make it at this point. Of course, I said that 3000 words ago when I put it up the first time. I know I've got a few people thinking I was going to put it up with the changes. Hm. *ponders new concrit filter*

Never write just to add word count. Maybe it's time to put it away for a little while and come back later. Have your writer buddy and mom offered opinions yet?

Love the chinchilla!

My Writing Buddy has the new version, which my Mom hasn't seen yet. I'm thinking about posting that up.
