First of all, a big THANK YOU to everyone who wished me a Happy Birthday today. *smooches you all* For anyone wondering, I turned 21 again today. *nods firmly* Really.

All we did special today was go out to dinner at Red Robin, where I ate ridiculous amounts of fried shrimp, steak fries, and fried zucchini. Seeing a pattern there? However, we have plans to go see "The Hulk" this weekend, and we hope it's playing at the drive-in with "Iron Man," because that would be awesome. Or we might go see "The Happening," because it's M. Night and we like him in spite of the last train wreck. Hey, M. Night? You're awesome, but you're not Neil Gaiman. Don't try.

We also went grocery shopping at The Evil Mart of Walls. Which had the original X-Men movie in their $5 bin. And a double disc Will Smith set that had "I, Robot" and "Independence Day" for $9. Alan Tudyk is in the first, and Adam Baldwin is in the second. What's not to love? Also, Will rocks like a big rocking thing.

Borders has "MirrorMask" for $8 this week, and the Seattle's Best Coffee places that they have in Borders has a coffee milkshake to die for. OMG YUM. So, I have new/old SF/F on DVD.

And I have comicses. New Angel: After the Fall, and Chuck #1 (of 6), which starts us out on Gilligan's Island, Chuck style. *dies of funny*

In other news, my body this morning said "Happy birthday! Here's your period and some cramps! Whee!" I growled and took ibuprofen. HAH.

And now I suppose you all are wondering why I hate my brain. Well, I was discussing with the Hubby the fact that several people have mentioned that the ending of the Faerie Show fic is "too easy," for one reason or another. So, I had a Bunny for a new ending.

And I don't know whether to go or

What if, rather than reciprocating Saffron's feelings, Amethyst does what dragonfly-winged faeries naturally do to butterfly-winged faeries...and eats her? This might require tweaking the beginning a little so that Sheila brings two faeries instead of one, so the unveiling might be a little more shocking when she gets back to her setup.

So, yeah. I hate my brain. Why does it always go to a dark place when I'm trying to be light and funny? Now, I realize that I can play this for laughs, and I probably will, but still. Sheesh.

I just realized how nuts I went with the DVDs, there. LOL But I've been agitating for ID4 for a good while now. The others are just bonus. :)

My sister has ID4 on dvd and generally lets me borrow it whenever the urge strikes! Hey it's your birthday going nuts on DVDs is allowed.

Well, we generally have a "birthday day" that doesn't actually fall on the actual day, because the Hubby's is on the 18th and then Father's Day sometimes falls right inbetween. So, all we've done so far is go out to dinner. But I'm thinking the zoo and the aviary, and a movie or two, sound really good. And the Desert Star should be changing over to their new "Indiana Bones" show soon too...

Belated Happy Birthday - I have got very bad about sending birthday wishes in the last year.

As for Faerie munchies - it would be a good way to make the reader remember the story - I migh be inclined to go for it.

Thanks!

I'm going to try the new ending in a new fic doc and save the old one just in case it's awful. I've found that's a really good idea when making such a drastic change. ;)

I can't believe I missed your birthday! I had the alert and everything and my brain just died. Sounds like it was a mixed bag too.

Okay there went the cute fluffy story for Faerie Show but it could be really good. Your brain is a scary place!

It was okay, really. Busy, and not a whole lotta doing "fun" stuff, but we don't usually celebrate it on the actual day anyway, because the Hubby's birthday is on the 18th, so we usually pick a day between and do something fun then.

My brain ... man, I don't know. I think I read too much horror as a child or something and it warped me.

The dark ending would be appropriate for a 'fairy' story since most of them did originally end with someone dying, But as your story goes now, I don't think you can just change the ending. You would need a dark thread so the reader doesn't wonder what the hay happened.

Yeah, it'll require a pretty drastic change, more foreshadowing and stuff.

The nice thing about being a writer is that you can think of this neat stuff at the end and then go back and stick things in throughout that make the reader go "D'oh! Shoulda seen that coming!" and they think you're brilliant. They don't have to know that it's not a linear process. ;)

>>...they think you're brilliant.

That is one of the perks, but you pay for it, having to in and uproot stuff you were perfectly happy with before!

You worry about the darkness in your brain, but look at how much of literature is dark. Our culture is flooded with it, and to me the marvel is that you manage to find stories that are light.

I'm currently reading 'Briar Rose' by Jane Yolen, who reinterprets the original 'Sleeping Beauty in the Woods' as the story of a young Jewish woman during the holocaust. She keeps it lighter by having a granddaughter unravel the story in present time. I'm only half-way through, but I think the author is doing a good job of conveying the horror without being brutal.
She'll give me something to remember, not traumatize me.

Who would of thought - a noir fairy story. Since there's also a kidnapping by a human, you can send this to all the mystery noir markets. Cross-over stories are quite popular now, and the idea of a fairy being eaten is pretty dark, for sure. I'm wondering how much you plan to show of the picnic.
Good luck with the changes!

Well, considering the fact that most "fairy tales" aren't light and fluffy by their nature (Cinderella's stepsisters cut off a heel and a toe, and had their eyes pecked out by doves; Snow White's stepmother was forced to dance at SW's wedding in red-hot iron shoes until she died, etc), I'm going right along with the tradition here. *snerk*
