So, the comments I'm getting on the Faerie Show fic tell me that it kind of sucks like a Hoover. The idea is good; the execution is somewhat...problematic. I've spent most of today, off and on, beating it into some semblance of shape. I hope my new Writing Buddy doesn't look at it and go "Man, what the hell have I gotten myself into? This is terrible." Argh.

Also, no one hates the last 'graph but me.

And I realized that I use the scene with the Fae for a big ol' block of exposition. And I could probably handle that better. The problem is that I like that scene, and I also use it for the reveal of what one of the characters has hidden away until "the proper moment." I know, I know, they say "Kill your darlings," but I don't wanna. *stomps foot*

And I still have no idea what I'm going to do with the A&tS fic to make my protagonist actually, you know, protag. If he blows the museum up, then Merry won't much like him anymore, so that kills that next-to-last scene. I may have him steal something so he can examine it out from under prying eyes...and then get caught. This would be better than destruction, I think.

And I still don't have the Next Thing. None of the WIPs are talking to me, and the Bunnies are staying determinedly in the Hutch.

*cries*

The story does NOT suck and the scene with the Fae is fine. =P"

*blushes* Thanks. Sometimes I wonder if I'm fooling myself with the whole writing thing, and it's nice to have people to buck me up. :)

You know, sometimes I wonder the same thing myself. I think it's a writer thing. ;)

It doesn't suck, it just needs work. Don't beat yourself up! That's an order. :)

*kicks dirt* Yes, ma'am. It sucks less, now, anyhow. I think.

The Protag

You've already seen my comments about the Faeries. It's not nearly as bad as you are making it out to be.

As far as the protag you think isn't strong enough? That is acceptable. What you have to do is make him the only sane person in the story. Things are going crazy all around him (or her), and he or she has to handle all that. Of course, it helps if s/he solves a mystery in the end or does something else equally cerebral. Look at your other characters and see if you can beef them up and then have your protag react to them. Hope tis helps.

Well, it doesn't suck as much, now. I spent most of yesterday editing the crap out of it. Thanks again!

My protag in the A&tS story is actually the crazy person. Sort of. Turns out that he was actually seeing the stuff he thought he was seeing, but at the end it's too late. But he doesn't actually do anything. Which, indecisiveness could be his "fatal flaw," and the whole reason we get annihilated by big ol' treacherous squids, but the story feels off without him at least trying one last time.

Which is why I've been sitting on it since September. But I think I might, just maybe, have something that will work.

Maybe. *girds loins*
