And saw a double feature of "Iron Man" and "Drillbit Taylor."

"Iron Man" was awesome. I'm pretty sure the physics don't work out with it, but still. VERY tasty. DVD collection material.

"Drillbit Taylor," on the other hand...

So, we have the classic story of boys being bullied and deciding to hire a bodyguard. My question is, where were the adults, here? We have older boys stuffing younger kids into lockers, into the trophy case, beating them up, picking them up in the bathroom and making them pee on each other...

Where were the teachers? It's common knowledge among the kids that these guys are horrible people--surely the teachers have gotten some wind of it? No? And then, when a kid is brave enough to actually get a principal involved, the principal blows him off. WTF?

Not only that, but I would hope that security would be better in most schools than it apparently was in this one. Homeless dude comes in, acts like he knows what he's doing, and BOOM, is assumed to be a substitute teacher? NO.

And there was also the matter of Mr. Bully being described as an "emancipated minor" in one scene, Drillbit being informed that he's 18 in another scene (so he can commence deservedly whooping his ass), and then him being sent back to his parents in the last scene. Which is it? Emancipated minor /= eighteen. BAD EDITING for the lose.

However, the fact that the principal was played by the same guy who played the principal in the original Buffy movie (and the same sort of clueless idiot) was amusing. Apparently Stephen Root works a lot, and I know I've seen him in other things too. What do I recognize him from? Buffy. Yeah, that's me.

And Adam Baldwin has a freakin' hilarious cameo.

Sad to say, teachers are not now the authority figures that you remember and imagine. A crippling overdose of lawyers and education bureaucrats has seen to that. From what I gather, what you describe is actually close to the mark for many public schools.

And this is why Da Boy will go to a public school over my dead body. And even then they'll have to pry my cold fingers from his ankle.

I'm sure you're right about the physics of Iron man but, hey, it's comic book physics. :) and it's so very pretty.

Oh, yes. What's funny is that comics make physics work for them when they want to, but they ignore pesky things like concussive force when it's convenient for them to do so. LOL This book is a fascinating read.
