The Muses have either died or gone permanently into hiding. I've got nothing. Zilch, zip, zero, nada. I haven't written a thing since I stuck an END at the bottom of the BearFic. The Stuff that Thing story is moribund; the Books Gone Bad fic's coffin is nailed shut; the InsaneAlien thing has no plot, and thus no words. At all.

This has got to be the worst case of writing doldrums I've ever had.

Therefore, I'm asking you, o flist, to step up to the plate and give me writing prompts. SF is my genre of choice at this point in time; apparently attempting to write fantasy has caused the Muses to run screaming in horror.

My Writing Buddy gave me my last writing prompt, which was: "I don't know where your lost god is, but I can tell you where to start looking." This produced the BearFic, which I'm very happy with. If someone out there could give me a theme, or a plot, or SOMETHING to hang my hat on, I'd be ever so grateful.

A friend gave me this which I haven't done anything with: There I was. I thought I was going to die

On a world far away, every individual has been cloned from the same DNA. They have no difficulty telling one another apart by dress, vocation, and mannerisms. Your ship has mechanical difficulties and you land there. What kind of havoc will you cause with your very diverse crew in a society that is unaccustomed to dealing with major differences?

You wake up, and stagger from bed to bathroom, all just as usual. Until you look in the mirror, and you don't recognize the face that looks back at you...

This is actually a Stargate prompt but it will work well for original fiction as well. You're in a universal where numerous worlds with varying levels of technology trade with each other. You are manning the currency exchange as the intergalactic marketplace. I figure there are all kinds of weird things people could use for currency and just how many fire jewels is on goat worth.

Hope that sparks something.

Here's a line that I thought of but never did anything with. Thus, I bequeath it to you, in hopes that can do something wonderful with it.

"Some ancient tribes believe that a camera will steal your soul. Naturally, they are dismissed by more civilized people. But they're not wrong. It's just that a soul is such a big thing to fit on such a tiny piece of film."
