Father disputes son's $53,000 strip club bill.

Okay, I'd be pissed if my kid ran up a bill like that in a strip club too. Or any sort of entertainment establishment, for that matter.

But if my "kid" was twenty-four years old, I'd tell him he was responsible for it and wash my hands of him.

I mean, really. Cut the damb apron strings, already. Unless you want him living in your basement until he's forty.

No kidding. He'd be $53,000 in dutch and hopefully a little smarter if he were my kid.

I mean, it would be one thing if he were eighteen and incredibly naive. By twenty-four, you're supposed to have developed some smarts. And self-control. $2000 bottles of champagne? DUDE. I've never spent that much on an entire MEAL.

From what I understand the $2000.00 isn't just the champagne...but I could be wrong

Salter bought at least 19 bottles of champagne - priced from $150 to $2,000.

I want to know how many people he had with him, because I'm willing to bet that that's not ALL the booze he bought that night. *boggles*

$2000 for a bottle of champagne?

Wow. And I thought I was being extravagant when I spent nearly $100 on a bottle of scotch once! (in my defense, that bottle lasted me a month, and I shared it with several people. It was also damned good scotch!)

This guy bought 19 bottles of just champagne. I'm sure he didn't drink it all himself, but I just can't imagine spending that much money on that kind of thing.

Of course, I loathe champagne. $100 for a bottle of really good whiskey, I can see spending. :)

This was an 18-year-old Highland Park. I've never seen it in liquor stores; I had to go to BevMo for it. (You live in Utah? I lived there for a year, once. I don't know where in Utah you live (I lived a couple of hours' drive from Bryce Canyon) or whether good alcohol will be as difficult to acquire as it was when I lived there, but BevMo doesn't appear to have stores there, so if you decide you want to try it, you may have to order it.)

I only actually drink alcohol about twice a year (if that), so I doubt I'll be picking any up any time soon. I've never even gone inside one of our State Liquor Stores, so I have no idea what they might stock. I live in a 'burb of SLC. :)

Someone left their brain at home. 19 bottles of expensive champagne? Yeesh!

At the same time, we get very few facts in this story. Did the club misrepresent or gloss over the price of the champagne the guy was buying? Did they see the kid as an easy mark to soak for an expensive tab? If I got that far in over my head, I might run to an older, wiser person as well.

Also, the article doesn't say the dad will be paying the tab, whatever it turns out to be. I hope he doesn't.

HOW do you even "run a bill" up that high? Surely someone must have thought to themselves somewhere along the line, "Boy, this guy is throwing money away like there's no tomorrow," done the math, and asked for a credit card or something to back up the tab? I mean, our credit card has a ridiculously high limit on it, and it wouldn't cover a tab like that. I guess AmEx doesn't have a credit limit, but, DUDE. The club should have cut him off way before it got that out of hand.

I'd love to know what he gave the bartender as security.

I'm thinking AmEx here. I'm not excusing the kid, just wondering what the full story is.

And if it's Daddy's credit card, then Daddy's on the hook for it, and Daddy is a moron for trusting the kid with his AmEx card.

Shoulda just given the kid $600 in cash and said "When it's gone, it's gone. Don't ask for more." That would've been the smart thing to do, but then I like to use this thing we call "Earth logic."
