Weird Al FTW!
Sep. 8th, 2007 12:16 pmSo, we hit the Utah State Fair yesterday, as we do this time of the year. We rode the Giant Yellow Slide. We saw piglets! And BUNNIES OMG. Lionhead Bunnies! We got to pet one and it was SO SOFT OMG. I need one. OMG.
I also ran into Dave Farland/Wolverton (depending on what name he's writing under) and scored a signed copy of "Of Mice and Magic," a poster, and a little plush dragon. He's been working with animators and book people to put together a book/DVD about fish, which we got to see bits and pieces of--and looked brilliant. Traditional 2-D animation FTW. Dave's going to be at LTUE in February, and I'll grab those for Da Boy then.
And then we got to see Weird Al Yankovic in concert.
First off, they were dreadfully late. I realize that for a show of this complexity (and DUDE. It was really complicated. When did concerts get complicated?) there's a lot of setup and stuff that goes into it, but honestly, they should have gotten their act together a bit better than they did.
But once it started...
IT WAS FABULOUS.
It started with a polka medley. Of course. *hearts the polka medleys* I swear, Weird Al goes through a good twenty or so costume changes during a show. While he's doing that, we get video interviews with various celebrities--which are hysterical. I can't believe he gets away with what he does, honestly. Apparently people like Eminem, Kevin Federline, and JessicaSimpson, I'm sorry, Sampson, have a sense of humor about themselves. Or something.
We got treated to a bunch of new stuff, and lots of classics. Both the Star Wars songs, "Amish Paradise," "White and Nerdy" (my personal anthem), "All About the Pentiums," "Fat," "Eat It"...
There's no way I can name them all. The show ran a good two hours.
What was nice was, even the songs I didn't know, I could make out most of the lyrics to. That was very cool.
And then for the encore he came out and did "Albuquerque"!
He must have been exhausted by the end.
So, yes. If you're a Weird Al fan (or even if you're not--if you're not, WHY NOT? Goodness.) and you get the chance to see him in concert, GO.

Date: 2007-09-10 11:29 am (UTC)The extreme lateness could have been because of many factors. There was a concert here with dozens of different performers where the traffic was so bad that several of the bands where still stuck in traffic while they were supposed to be performing.
It's always great to hear that someone you like gives a great concert.
