get into a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent. But internet fights over stupid crap are FUN. Plus it lets me trot out the "D'Argo -- Shut Up" userpic, which I don't get to employ nearly enough.

In other news, I'm still deciding what next to send to Writers of the Future. I was going to package up the Werewolf Fic and send that, but if the GargoyleFic comes back from F&SF before the end of the month (and my, but they have a frighteningly fast turnaround time; I got the last thing back within a week), I could send that instead. The Werewolf Fic is kind of light and funny and they're always complaining that they don't get enough humor--but the GargoyleFic is, possibly, the stronger story. I don't have to mail anything out until the 30th. Decisions, decisions...

My goodness, I can think of several dozen more worthwhile ways to spend my time than snarking semi-illiterate fanfic. Entire communities devoted to the purpose - I shake my head. One may as well take a pushbroom to the incoming tide.

On the other hand, I suppose there are worse hobbies and more destructive pastimes, and the occasional semi-coherent rant is fun to encounter.

I'm not actually a member of that comm, but [livejournal.com profile] chelianmobile posted about this person over at [livejournal.com profile] wtf_review, and I couldn't resist getting some snark in, because, dude. "Over the Hedge" torturefic? It would be one thing if it was well-done. This...isn't.

What was the title of that community - [livejournal.com profile] marysues? Here's one for them - from the summary, this is a real bell-ringer.

*blinks* People fangirl Richard??? That's a new one on me...

Well. To her credit, she knows where her spellcheck is, she's actually spelled Jack's last name right, and her punctuation is okay. Aside from the ginormous plot hole of a "telepathic" character not knowing that Ben's been a deceitful little bastard, and the fact that the character is a raging Sue, and a whole boatload of "said-book-ism," it's not actually AWFUL.

Looking up that phrase led me to this. What the hey, you might find it useful.

A Workshop Lexicon

(Brenda Starr Dialogue: “Long sections of talk with no physical background or description of the characters. Such dialogue, detached from the story's setting, tends to echo hollowly, as if suspended in mid-air. Named for the American comic-strip in which dialogue balloons were often seen emerging from the Manhattan skyline.” Ouch.)

I saved it off as a text file, so I may access it without being at the mercy of some remote server on the Internet. I'm paranoid that way.
