The Buffy comic, the first few issues of which are penned by Joss himself and will be considered canon by him, comes out today. I'll be going out to grab mine a little later today. How about you?
The poll doesn't work properly. It told me 'We're sorry, you've already voted in this poll' but I hadn't - I've only just seen it.
I was trying to vote for "Chosen" was a good enough place to end. I don't need any more canon; fanfic is good enough. Although I consider AtS canon and think that you should have said "Not Fade Away" rather than "Chosen".
You should be able to vote tomorrow; it's set up so that the same IP can vote once a day. Is it possible that curiouswombat voted in it before you saw it?
For me, the only reason I'm buying them is because they've got the Joss Seal of Approval on them, and he's writing the first few issues. Otherwise, I'd stick with the Angel and Spike comics, because Buffy really was never my first love. But I'm weird. :)
My answer is actually "my comic guy is pulling it and putting it with the rest of my comics, and I'm more excited about the IDW Angel line anyway, since I'm afraid Joss may jump the shark"
Oh, the IDW line rocks like a big rocking thing; I've got all of them and can't wait for "Shadow Puppets" in May. Because Puppet!Spike is going to be the Best. Thing. Ever.
My thought on all comics, tie- ins ect. Is that they are fun but no matter who writes them they aren't canon. Canon for a TV show is the show. Just the show. It's what I was taught Starfleet ;)
Hee! Yes, but... If the creator of the show says, okay, kiddies, this is how it definitely would have gone if we'd gotten another season, don't you have to sit up and take notice, no matter what the format is? And then what do you do with things like "Serenity"? It wasn't the TV show, it was a movie. Can we reject Joss's reality and substitute our own? Does Wash still live?
Also, what is Starfleet's attitude toward the Trek movies? Are those canon?
Sure, I'd pay attention but it doesn't change my own views of what might be. To use Trek again Uhura and Sulu got names in the tie-ins long before anyone used them in the movies. They weren't considered canon until they were though because the writers could've always changed their minds. Even the actors and writers said that was the case. Joss may be a little more certain of his own verse but that doesn't matter to me. The process and the end product are too different.
That doesn't mean I don't own a whole ton of comics and hundreds of tie-in novels. I just see them as legal fanfiction. In an odd reverse way the Dresdan Files TV show is the same.
I should've said anything on flim. The movies are canon although I personally think the one where Spock has a crazy brother is all a nightmare. But it's a nightmare they all had in canon, like a Trek "Restless." LOL
