We were watching some S3 eps of "Lois and Clark," which apparently decided to spend that season merrily leaping with wild abandon over herds of hammerheads. But I don't care, because it was still better than 90% of the usual fare available on a Sunday night. "Animation Domination Abomination," indeed. *snorts*
I watch the Oscars every year and overall this was a good year. THough I have to agree that most of the nominees were films no one had ever heard of. This year was definitely NOT mainstream.
I lost what little faith I had in Hollyweird when "Shakespeare in Love" (which I considered bad RPF and schlocky "romance" with a nice dose of adultery thrown in) beat "Saving Private Ryan" (which was probably one of the finest war movies ever made).
Lately, at least in the last few years, it seems like I haven't seen ANY of the nominees, and the whole thing has gotten to be more about "good politics" rather than "good movies." Even Oliver Stone will get snubbed if his movie doesn't have the right "message" -- "World Trade Center," anyone?
Of course, if you're going to be in the industry, then you should keep your finger on the pulse, so to speak. I, on the other hand, have no such need. ;)
