Yes, that's me, screaming. Remember that big ol' presentation I put together (with the help of my flist and the Hubby) for MountainCon?

Well, they've posted the titles of the panels. And the title for the fanfiction panel is "What is the value of fanfiction?"

o.O

This makes me wonder if I should change the focus of my presentation to an actual defense of writing fanfic, instead of the "getting started and pitfalls to avoid" thing I've got right now. Which I can totally do, but, dude. A little more warning would have been...nice.

Now I need to poke through my back entries and find the one I did, lo, many moons ago, about why writing fic is useful, valuable, and good. *heavy sigh*

That is so not cool! I loved the statement someone, to my shame I can't remember who, made at WriterCon. Fanfiction is in the mainstream. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is fanfiction, as is Wicked, Wide Sargasso Sea, and any of a hundred retellings of classic myths. There's nothing shameful or bad about it. Good writing is good writing. Now, let's talk about the writing.

Fanfiction has the same exact value as any other fiction as an art form. In fact it more "artistic" in a way. It is always done as a form of self expression without hope of making any money off it. The value of it depends on what the writer puts into it and what the reader gets from it.

Hello! I just found your journal. I really couldn't say where from, I was just clicking on different ones and BOOM!

I saw in your profile: christianity, conservative politics. *breathes in a breath of fresh air*

May I add you?

Certainly! However, a lot of this LJ is whining about my current fanfic projects, just so you're warned. LOLq

Thank you! That's ok, I actually enjoy all types of fanfic.

Sometimes in mine, you'll find me ranting/venting about hitting a brick wall in my writings. Right now, I'm at a stand still....that brick wall nearly knocked my butt out last time. lol
