I know you're dying to know.

I took pictures of my Oaxacan carving collection and my anteater collection with my shiny new camera, edited them (although I didn't have to do much to them, because the camera is teh awesome), uploaded them to Photobucket, and then stuck a note on them there saying what they were, and, in the case of the carvings, who the artist is. Several hours and 102 pix later, I'm done.

Whew.

And since I also know you're dying to know what an anteater collection looks like (yes, I'm looking at you, [livejournal.com profile] kantayra), I'm posting some teasers here and a link to the rest of them, which you can view in this album.

I don't think I had ever seen an anteater sculpture in my life, and now, I've seen quite a few!
How do you display them?

I've got the Oaxacan carvings on shelves scattered around the walls, and the anteaters are in a bookcase. It all started with a resin pangolin, then I decided he needed a friend and got the Beanie, then I found the little Beanie at a swap meet...and then I started looking on eBay. The Oaxacan carvings were an outgrowth of the anteater collection; I bought the pangolin (it always starts with pangolins!) and then fell in love with the art form.

I can't collect normal things like cows or chickens. Not me. *is weird*

These are wonderful! I love them all, but of course my favourite is the red horse..
My friend Jill would adore the Bassett hound.
Anteaters are strange creatures, sort of so ugly they're cute..
Thanks for sharing these with us!

The carvings are an amazing art form; I wish I could buy them more often. Eleazar Morales is my favorite, because he does the odd and unusual (such as the tapir and okapi) as well as the more normal (such as the dog)...and what he does with the colors and the forms is just beautiful. The pictures don't really do them justice, although they're better with this camera than they were with my old one. I'm glad you enjoyed them. :)

eBay is my very good friend. It's a shame that those pix don't give you an idea of scale at all. I guess I could have stuck a quarter up next to them or something (especially for the third one from the bottom, because he's teeny). But I have a search string saved on eBay and I hunt them a couple of times a week.

Those are fabulous - I think the next to bottom one is my favourite.

:) That eBay seller had several of them, but I haven't seen them for quite some time. It's kind of a funky hobby, looking for the odd and unusual. LOL

Anteaters should not be cute at all, and yet, somehow, they manage to be. Sneaky buggers.

Your collection is beautiful! I love the dog - it looks so happy.

I wanted that dog for a long time before I was actually able to buy him...and then he went on sale for half price!
