Because I'm reading "Skin Game," Jim Butcher's latest Dresden Files novel, and I just got to the part with Uriel. Which is all I'm going to say about that, although there may be spoilers in the comments.
I have frequently said, with great sincerity, that I want to be Jim Butcher when I grow up. I do not mean that I want to write Dresden Files clones or sound like him or any of that other stuff. I am That Werewolf Writer, and I have my own voice and my own characters whom I'm sure I love as much as Jim loves Harry.
What I mean by that is that I want that same ability to turn the Awesome Setting up to, not merely ten or eleven or even twelve, but ... a million. I want the ability to do that as consistently and reliably often as he does. I want people to love my characters and my prose as much as I love his.
And someday, perhaps, if I am half as good as he is, I may accomplish it.
