I'm poking the Werewolf!not!Pepper version of the not!Iron Man fic. And here's the scene where he asks her to marry him (the first time).

And of course, in the original version, the answer is "ask me again when we get out of here."

In this version? She can't. Not "won't." But how can she? This is a secret she's been harboring for how long now? And her boss is the CEO and mover and shaker behind a medical research company? Don't you know that the science types would love to get ahold of a werewolf to see what makes it tick?

So. They need to have a conversation here...

I suck at big emotional scenes. I suck at writing things where the stuff they're saying to each other matters. I'm so emotionally stunted and avoidy myself that I really, just...

Not only that, but this scene really needs to be from her POV, and it's not, and I don't really have a graceful way of switching it.

I just broke 14,000 words on the not!Iron Man story. That's 1500 words or so today. I am so not going to be able to sell this anywhere.

Not!Pepper has revealed her deep, dark secret, in the first marriage proposal scene. I've had her holding back on her inner wolf through the whole story, but I'm thinking there has to be some sort of payoff where she does finally lose it and wolf out. Seriously.

But this will require more thought, and I'm also considering having the Call for Help actually fail so they have to do something themselves. And then there's the whole question of her needing to bite him to save him because of the whole "he's been stabbed" issue.

I will save these weighty matters for tomorrow. Tonight, I have a bike to ride and an Iron Man novelization to read ("Funvee" wasn't in the shooting script. Who knew?), and we may go to the drive in tonight to see "Hancock." Maybe. We don't want to get too far behind watching movies because Hellboy2 and Journey to the Center of the Earth open tomorrow night. The problem with Hancock is that it's playing with Zohan and we don't want to watch that, whatsoever. So, yeah. If it was playing with something actually good, it would be a no-brainer. As it is...sigh.

And here's where it veers off, I think. You can't put a loaded werewolf on the mantle in Act I without having it go all fangs and fur in Act III. Because she's barely holding it in, and him being stabbinated "a little" would be the final straw. The smell of his blood is driving her crazy enough as it is. This? Yeah.

So, I've stuck all the various versions into their own folder. I've got four versions and two scenes. Two of the versions have been abandoned for now--the present tense one and the one where I stuck the serial numbers back on. Having read half of the Iron Man novel, I'm pretty sure my characterization of actual!Tony is way off for this thing, so it's probably never going to see the light of day. The present tense version can wait until I'm done tinkering.
