But we saw "Pirates of the Caribbean" last night. For the record, I enjoyed it thoroughly. HOWEVER. (non-spoilery ranting ahead)
They crammed enough plot into the thing for two movies, at the expense of character development. Some of the plot elements seemed to come out of the blue (although if we rewatch the second movie, there may be more foreshadowing than we realized). Others were the victims of drive-by plotting.
And the thing is, the writers could have said, oops, we've got enough here for four movies. And we, the audience, would have gone, gleefully. I'm always for more movie if the plot will sustain it, and boy howdy would it have ever.
And Disney's never been shy about milking a cash cow until it's DEAD, so what would the problem have been with making four movies instead of three?
So. It was fabulous. But it could have been fabulous-er. I loved it, but I feel just the teeniest bit cheated. Also, they left open for another sequel, which, if they make it, I'm going to be unhappy.
I guess that's why we have fanfic.
