Computer gurus on my flist?
Dec. 26th, 2004 09:02 pmOkay, here's the deal. I have this little laptop. Got it for $250 on eBay, and it's cute and light and does what I want it to do...for the most part. Mostly, I do word processing and internet with it, along with some photo manip. It runs Win 98, has a P2 chip, 128 megs of RAM, a 6.4-gig HD, and a 366-MHz processor. Yes, it's a dinosaur. But it works.
All that being said...there's one or two things that drive me crazy about it. My HD is partitioned. My OS and a few other things are on the C drive, and everything else is on the D drive. Which wouldn't be a problem, but the C drive, which is 2 gig, is pretty full, and with the temp internet files it's constantly getting, it fills up fast, and then I get annoying little messages. And I have practically nothing on the D drive. I've heard from the lovely and talented
jerib_78 that Partition Magic will smush my C & D drives together so I won't have this problem anymore, but I'll have to reformat and thus have to stick everything on CD's and then reload them, plus I think I'd have to re-download Netscape, which took over two hours last time I did that. So, it's an option, but not a shiny one.
Question: Is there any other way to integrate my hard drive?
Another thing. I used McAfee's antivirus. Which I have now decided is the AntiChrist. Is Norton any better for Win98, or is there another one out there that might work? Recommendations from the PC gurus on my flist would be welcomed with grateful thanks.
It's a Dell Latitude Cpi A-series. Is it upgradeable at all? Not so much the HD, but the chip and the processor? Or is it all proprietary integrated crap?
