Serenity! Serenity! Serenity!

Okay, I've now seen it three times: Once in a pre-screening, and twice as a final cut. And I have to say that this movie gets better with more viewings, and the impact isn't lessened at all.
Last night I went to the midnight showing with the loverly and effulgent

Anywho, we laughed, we cried. There were actual screams when Wash died. I took a plush badger with me (lame, I know), but I gave custody of him to the fellow Jeri brought to the Shindig when I went for snackage, and didn't get him back until the end of the movie. He'd been squashed. LOL One thing that was pretty cool was that we had previews just like a regular showing, and people clapped after the Narnia trailer. Lord, I hope they didn't screw that up. It looks good, though.

Michael Medved gave it three stars today, which gives me warm fuzzies. He doesn't do that often, and he's one of the few reviewers out there I actually respect. As for the bar scene that a lot of people seem to be dismissing out of hand...I still think it holds up, even after multiple viewings. River is really hitting and kicking people *hard* there. Other than how graceful she is, she doesn't look "girly" at all. These are not love taps she's delivering; it looked "real" to me. As opposed to Inara, who tries some fancy moves on the Operative and basically gets the snot knocked out of her. And looks totally girly while she's at it. River's sequence in the bar didn't look "faked" to me, like a Jackie Chan (for example) movie does. I love Jackie, he's cool...but it doesn't look like he's ever really hurting anyone, if you know what I mean. This was different.
So, yes. Go see it. It really is that good.

Date: 2005-10-01 07:03 am (UTC)I'd actually intended to listen to his show today, just to hear what he had to say about the movie... and then wound up completely missing it.
I do agree, though, that the movie gets better with repeated viewings. I've often said that after I saw it the first time I wasn't entirely sure I'd enjoyed it (spending the last half hour in a bit of a state of shock didn't help).

That is me trying to explain in words how much I loved it.
