When he passes his illness on to the rest of the family--twice in two weeks. We're all miserable. Ugh.

In other news, we might be headed out to San Diego at the end of the month. Dude, there's so much to do there. The Zoo, the Wild Animal Park, Sea World. The Aerospace Museum, the Car Museum, the Puppet Theater. The Star of India, Harbor tours, and ZOMGshopping and the beach!

President Bush's Supreme Court nominee, John Roberts, has caused Planned Parenthood and NARAL to have conniption fits. Teddy Kennedy nearly had a heart attack. This endears Judge Roberts to me immediately. Hopefully, the confirmation fight won't be too strenuous.

Always think San Diego sounds fun. Useless fact - The 'Star of India' was built in the shipyard of my home town - Ramsey, in the north of the Island!! If I remember rightly she was called 'Euterpe' when she was launched - not that I was there at the time!!

Oh, neat! You're correct, that's what she was called (we've been aboard her several times). I *heart* San Diego, and it'll be good to go back, if we can. *crosses fingers*

I'm actually pleased that the President didn't feel the need to keep that particular seat as the "Chick Seat" like everyone seemed to want him to do. I found the pressure to put a woman in that seat simply because one had been in there before to be incredibly silly and just a wee bit sexist.

As for who he chose... he may as well choose who he really wants, because no matter who he picked, the opposition would still be screaming. What I found really funny was that yesterday several of those same groups jumped the gun and were making the exact same statements about that judge from Louisianna that everyone thought was going to be chosen. I guess their records don't really matter... if they're someone who would be picked by a Republican, then the broad brushes come out to paint them as universally bad.

Thankfully, and a little surprisingly, I've mostly seen a lot of "wait and see" posts from my Democrat friends on LJ today.

On of our local papers ran an article on him this morning that really got my hopes up. He sounds fairly level-headed and not prone to creating law out of nothing (or abolishing law, simply because he doesn't like it). And I loved this statement: "The District court described the policies that led to her arrest as 'foolish,' and indeed the policies were changed after those responsible endured the sort of publicity reserved for adults who make young girls cry."

Well, he's eminently qualified...but so was Judge Bork. And I love how Dick Durban is wondering if Roberts is "mainstream"--when a lefty like Durban wouldn't know "mainstream" if it bit him on the butt.

Man, I hope this isn't an ugly fight.

Regarding San Diego - I lived there for three years when I was a kid. My dad was in the Coast Guard and we lived right next to the newer Point Loma lighthouse. The older lighthouse is a state park, I believe, and you can visit and go inside the lighthouse. It's on top of a cliff and has a great view and you can see the city of San Diego out in the distance, and then look down the cliff and see the newer Point Loma... they actually filmed part of "Top Gun" there, hehe. But that was a year or two before we moved there, so I never got to meet my childhood crush Tom Cruise :(

Anyway, yeah, hehe. During our time there we went to the zoo and Wild Animal Park a few times, and Sea World was always a favorite. I'm trying to remember what other cool stuff was there but I don't really remember... it's been so long now, and I was pretty young at the time too.

I'd love to go back there one day. I hope you have fun!!!

I Yahoo!ed the old Point Loma lighthouse and realized it isn't a park in itself... it's part of the Cabrillo National Monument. So there's more to it than just the lighthouse, but it's a neat place and has a great view of the area, from what I remember :)

Hee! I was thinking the same thing earlier today.
