Yup. I'm sure this has been done to death. But I've come to the conclusion that it's not just the show I'm upset about losing. "Angel" is the only part of the Whedonverse we have left, at this point. And the Whedonverse is more than some TV shows--it's a whole community of people. I've met people and made friends because of these shows. And it hurts to think that we might all start drifting away from each other because the glue that holds us together has dissolved. I hope we don't do that, but I'm realist enough to know that it could very well happen.

I mean, really...would WriterCon have been organized at all, if we had known from the beginning of the season that this would be the last?

How many of us started writing because of Buffy and Angel? I, for one, would never have put hand to keyboard without the inspiration of these shows. I've stretched creative muscles I'd forgotten I had because of Joss. And for that, I thank him.

And it's not just the fact of the cancellation. It's the way they did it. My understanding is that they have up to episode 18 of this season in the can already. That means they have four whole episodes to conclude a series that's taken five years to develop. If they'd renewed it for next season and said "This is the last," that would have been an entirely different matter. But they didn't do that.

No. They have another vampire show in the works. And instead of exploiting a natural crossover audience, they've succeeded in pissing off the very fanbase they're trying to attract. Way to go, WB. Eat my shorts.

I know! I never would have even found out about internet communities, livejournal, or even TWoP if not for the Jossverse (specifically Buffy) and now it's ending and there's not going to be any more and waaaaah!
Sorry. Maybe Joss can continue with the Buffyverse somehow - like in comics? I know he and the other writers are doing Tales of the Vampires now (I've read them and they are quite good), so why could they do that for Buffy and/or Angel?

I think there already is a Buffy comic, although I have no idea who produces it or if it's any good. I wouldn't have known about fanfiction at all if it weren't for Buffy; the first one I ever saw was Buffy Immortal on the studiesinwords site, and then I went to FFN (I don't remember exactly why) and found Richard Bachman's "Normal Again" and Aeneas' "RdE" and was GONE. An idea for a Spike-centric story started rattling around in my brain....and here I am.

I hope the WB at least gives them a two-hour finale if Joss thinks they need one. Four hours just doesn't seem like enough to finish out everything that needs to be done.
