Joss Whedon Surprised by Dark Shadows Pilot... January 20 2004

Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon was left disarmed when asked for his reaction to the WB's new Dark Shadows pilot, the Alameda Times-Star reports. Whedon, currently producer of WB vampire drama Angel, had not been told by the WB of their plans. "At least it’s not an important, successful producer," Whedon replied drily.

Warner Bros chairman Jordan Levin later apologized for not informing him earlier. "I think the two shows can co-exist," commented Levin afterwards. Angel is an action-adventure, while Dark Shadows is a gothic soap opera."

And then there's this, from here: http://www.collinwood.net/news/index.htm#pilot-wb

Angel Cancelled as Pilot Details Emerge February 14 2004

A fallen Angel seems to bode well for the WB's Dark Shadows pilot. The network announced the cancellation of its Buffy spin-off yesterday, just weeks after WB executive Jordan Levin insisted that Dark Shadows posed no threat for the show's future. For full coverage on Angel, visit Zap2it.

Un. Frickin'. Believable.

"A fallen Angel bodes well"???? Pissing off the fanbase for one vampire show bodes well for another?

HOW? Before they cancelled my favorite show, I might have been interested in taking a look at their new Vampire Gothic Soap Opera. Now? They can eat my shorts.

Someone needs to take away the WB exec's crack pipes.

Joss Whedon at the Bronze: Beta boards:

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the road less traveled by and they CANCELLED MY FRIKKIN' SHOW. I totally shoulda took the road that had all those people on it. Damn."

I so want him to shop the show to other networks. And if it goes to a cable network, I *will* break down and either get a dish or subscribe to cable.

When "Dark Shadows" tanks, I hope someone at the WB loses his job over this.

I don't know if he can shop around; I think maybe the whole point of the WB saying that Angel might come back in "tv movies" was to prevent Joss from seeing if other networks will buy.
If not, I definitly hope another network buys it - UPN?

If it was me, I'd tell the WB just where they could stick their "TV movies"--unless they gave me a specific contract and guaranteed they'd air. Otherwise, it's just talk designed to throw the fans a bone so we don't riot.

I swear, I'd boycott the WB altogether if I didn't think that punishing Jamie Kennedy because of his STUPID network would be the wrong thing to do.

Grr.

Noticed a trend at the WB and TV in general.

The OC - soap opera. It's Melrose and 90210 all over again, only worse.

Smallville (WB) - total soap opera. Trust me.

One Tree Hill (WB) - yet another teen angst-opera. Hideous.

Dark Shadows - Touted as a "gothic, soap opera."

Soaps? They're putting on more soaps and they think it's a good thing? Don't they remember the Melrose and 90210 backlash? Those who can't remember history are doomed to repeat it.

Yup. [Spike voice] Is everyone there at the WB very stoned?

The longer I think about this, the dumber it seems.
